From a bar of soap to a lump hammer. A little treasure trove, everything you need in one little shop. At Halloween and Christmas it is well worth a visit to see the displays. My children love to visit Lipton’s Clones.

Clones town, situated on the main Cavan/Monaghan N54 road, is a town with over 1,000 years of history. Home to the St Tiernachs GAA Park, where the Ulster Final is held, Clones Film Festival and the International Clones Lace Summer School, this quaint little town boasts character and a warm welcome.
Our family spent the weekend in Clones and arranged to finish our walking tour of Clones at the Ulster Canal Stores. We were not disappointed. There were 14 of us and the room was set up beautifully for us. We received the most magnificent welcome from Deirdre and Sharon, who were so helpful. The tea and scones were delicious! Thanks for everything guys - it was brilliant!

If you’re in Monaghan be sure to drop into this wonderful museum. It’s free admission and consists of very very interesting displays of Co Monaghans history. The current War of Independence exhibition is very well put together and is a credit to whoever put organised it. Lastly the lady on the front desk is so friendly and helpful. It was an absolute pleasure to visit this museum.

The town is very attractive with Georgian buildings, and an interesting history. We stopped to visit the Lace Gallery and met a lace maker who showed us how lace was made. The gift shop had many beautiful pieces of old and new lace on display with the ability to purchase lace related gifts. There was a nearby tea shop and across a hallway from the Lace Gallery was another shop that sold items made by local artists - woven items, etc. This town is well worth a stop if you are anywhere in the area; we stopped on the way from Dublin to Northern Ireland.

Very nicely curated exhibition on the life and work of Patrick Kavanagh. I suggest starting with the touch screens on your right as you enter the exhibition space and work your way around in a clockwise direction to follow his story in chronological order. Well done to all involved in putting this little gem of a centre together!

Visited Rossmore Forest Park last week and overall was very impressed with their lovely walking trails... but I have to say there were a couple of things that I wished I had been aware of prior to our visit! Firstly when you drive through the main gates there is a small parking area on the right....this is NOT the main car park. Keep driving straight and you will arrive at a very well maintained car park with picnic tables and an excellent play area for children. Also, don't be fooled (as we were) by some bizarre signage! One particular direction sign says ACCESS FOR ALL ROUTES and points to the left. This is NOT directing you to the different walking trails, the majority of which are accessed from the OPPOSITE side of the car park. We were totally fooled and followed this sign and spent the next hour wandering around muttering to ourselves 'this can't be right'! Apparently this sign is directing you to a particular route that is ACCESSIBLE FOR ALL ie. walkers and cyclists!! Get it....'Access-For-All' routes!! (Note to Monaghan County Council....remove this crazy sign immediately!). The Castle Trail is gorgeous and has a real magical quality. When you enter it, turn LEFT (ignore the over large sign with arrow pointing right....this is a sign for Coillte: Forestry Department) following the BROWN arrows and it leads to a fantastic walk by the river, past the walled garden ending up at the site of Rossmore Castle....which must have been magnificent (Google old photos) in its day. Follow the steps down to the lake and keep an eye out for the amazing Giant's Head! We'll definitely return!

We recently visited the Big Tom Statue & his grave. The statue was very easy to find & nicely kept, we got some lovely pics, his grave is a few miles outside the town, we asked for directions in a local shop. My mum is a huge fan of his music, after visiting both we called into Eileen’s Tea Rooms, Main Street & was greeted by the friendliest staff we have ever met, Eileen & Fiona, Thank you for everything, you made us feel so welcome, & made our trip from Mayo so worthwhile!!! the tea rooms has so many photos of the biggest country music stars, they showed us where Big Tom used to sit in their Tea Rooms, they made our trip!!! they were so helpful, friendly & the food was delicious. If visiting the statue a visit to Eileen’s Tea Rooms is a must!!
