My favourite pub in Clare! The atmosphere was lovely and the landlord and his wife are so welcoming, remembering our names after spending a few hours in there each night. Really looking forward to going back! A special mention to Neslon the dog!

Clare Castle Country Park

Clare Castle Country Park is a beautiful quiet area to relax, play, get close to nature and learn about Clare’s fascinating history and heritage. The park contains the remains of the 13th Century stone castle keep set upon its 60ft high motte overlooking the town, as well as its inner and outer baileys which are ideal areas for recreation and picnics. The inner bailey also contains the former railway station which now houses the Platform One Cafe serving hot drinks and food throughout the year. Away from the open green areas visitors can find the footpaths through the trees and along the banks of the River Stour and along the old railway line. Here can be viewed the variety of trees and plant life, and information boards show the various birds and water life which can be seen along the waters’ edge.

This place has a little but if everything. There is a playground as well as a train play structure. They have wooden sculptures in the shape of sheep that you can sit on. The walking trails weave through the park and walk next to a river where there is a family of swans. The castle has been fixed and there is a circular bench that tells you how far and in which direction are landmarks. There is also a staircase that now walks along the most.

Visited Clare Antiques today. Although it is now smaller it is still packed with some quirky and interesting antiques and Collectables and to top it all off the tea room is lovely. We enjoyed a lot of tea, a coffee and a scone with homemade jam and clotted cream and it was delicious. We left very happy and will definitely visit again. Also really convenient parking next to some lovely walks at Clare country park.
