Riesling Trail

Built on an old rail line the trail can be done in stages or the whole ride up and back on one day. Some parts are a little steep but mostly it’s an easy ride with families and the inexperienced enjoying it alongside the Lycra cyclists.

Sevenhill Cellars

Established by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in 1851, Sevenhill Cellars is the oldest winery in South Australia's Clare Valley and the only remaining Jesuit-owned winery in Australia. Originally set up to produce alter wine, Sevenhill is now recognised for its premium table wines, which express the Clare Valley's distinctivevarietal characteristics. The historic winery and cellar door, St Aloysius' Church, the College building and the surrounding vineyards and spiritual sites give visitors an opportunity to combine appreciation of some exceptional wines with an understanding of Sevenhill's religious and historic significance. You can discover this rich heritage on a guided walking tour or you can follow our walking trail using our map and information. Guided tours are scheduled on Tuesday and Thursday at 2pm or by appointment at weekends. At other times, visitors are welcome to undertake the tour by themselves, using our map and information.

We came here with the knowledge that this winery is responsible for producing the sacramental wines for the Catholic Church, and we didn't know what to expect, but were really taken aback by the grounds, the church and the Winery.
Would really recommend doing the Way of the Cross walk, very reflective, and also see the underground crypt, amazing.
Wines were ok. Good little museum area at the back of the winery. Lovely clean amenities outside if required. Great friendly service. Platters available for purchase.

Visited for lunch and a tour during an organised Rally recently and absolutely loved it. A wonderful view of the past - a substantial sheep, cattle and cropping property that has been operating in the one family for over a century. The homestead and outbuildings are all of the period and well presented. We enjoyed a delicious sit down lunch (lamb and rosemary pie) in the shearing shed and then a tour of the property by the owner which was most entertaining and informative. The whole day was a credit to the managers who have spent lot to maintain the old buildings and went out of their way to provide a great experience. We would recommend it to any groups and there is accomodation too!.

My husband and I enjoy Clare Valley wine or two and have visited many cellar doors. We expected Sussex Squire to be - ordinary - maybe because of the name and well, prancing pony as a name for a wine! But we were very pleasantly surprised! The view is to die for- set amongst the Spring Gully - and the whites were typical of the region - but the reds are where owner and winemaker Mark excelled! Each of his big reds has something unique to offer setting them apart from the usual Clare flavors. The label still grates in me and I couldn’t buy I wine called prancing pony but we’ll be back!

Got to this beautiful winery around lunchtime on Saturday to find a very good duo playing great music whilst having the opportunity to taste local produce on tasting plates. Sensational. The tasting room is very welcoming and the staff very helpful. You do have to pay either $5,$10,$20 depending on the quality of wines being tasted. The top end wines are excellent. Refunded if you buy. Definitely should be on your Must Visit list.

Lovely little winery with amazing views of Watervale. Served by a very friendly lady and tasting room had a barrel in the centre to put the bottles and glasses on. They had a very nice Watervale Riesling and deliciously smooth Muscat, so bought both of these.

Helpful, friendly and knowledgeable girl conducting the wine tastings. The wines were good too. Lovely old time feel as you walk into the cellar door. Onsite conveniences available. What you may not find out until later is that they will ship mixed vineyard cases for you from this location. Shipping fee does apply, but is very reasonable.
