Ingapirca Ruins

Ingapirca or “Wall of the Inca” is one of the most important ruin complexes in Ecuador, which many archaeologists theorize was once used for religious purposes.

High in la sierra, this is a beautiful historical site with gorgeous views of the mountains. Local crafts people sell their wares nearby. You can have quinoa soup and seco de pollo for lunch on site. I loved this site and the history I learned here.

Ingapirca Archaeological Complex

Reviewed By lunanegra5 - New Mexico, United States

If you enjoy the history of the Incas, seeing the ruins located in Ecuador is worth your time. No, it's not Machu Picchu, but it is fantastic in its own right. We chose a tour guide, Herman Flores, that we had for a Cuenca walking tour and a tour of Gualacea and Chorteleg on a previous visit, as he is well-versed in the history of his native Cuenca and many other tourist sites. Upon arrival, the sun went away and the ruins were shrouded in fog, which added to the mystery of the place. We were greeted by llamas at the start of the tour. We visited all parts of the complex and enjoyed Herman's historical review. At the conclusion of the visit to the temple, he took us on a short walk to see the face of an Inca embedded in rock at the foot of a trail. The trip was worthwhile and a pleasure to visit. Don't miss out! There is a charge for the entry to the complex.
