This is a great place to boogie board and catch some waves. Be careful with smaller children as this can get rough. If you have littles Praia do Forte has a calmer cove. We love this in the summer and winter. Be warned in the winter it feels cold.

The beach towards the Japanese island area is without doubt the busiest beach I have ever witnessed BUT jump in an Uber from here to the further end of the beach towards Arraial do Cabo (about £3) you have Foguete beach with pristine, clean, white sand and crystal clear, warm water. One of my favourite beaches in the world. Parasol, chairs and ice cold beers available at reasonable prices.

This is a family neighborhood with beautiful historical colonial architecture, full of restaurants with different cuisine to choose from, and hotels such as the Solar do Arco and others, usually located right by the water. It is close to the Canal do Itajuru which connects the ocean to Araruama Lagoon. The view of the canal is one of my favorites in Cabo Frio. You can enjoy the flights of different birds, watch the colorful boats and canoes anchored by the shore. From the shores of the canal at Passagem neighborhood you can get a water taxi that will take you to the famous Ilha do Japonês, Island of the Japanese, close by. Passagem is truly a beautiful place to visit.
