This ice cream has been a Texan treat since 1911.
Having tried the ice cream we were keen to do the tour, but unfortunately the factory is closed at the weekend when we were driving by. We still stopped to look at the pleasant grounds out front with the famous statue of the cow and the little girl. Super cute. Worth a five minute stop even if closed.

A really big area, with creative landscaping with varied and interesting structures and places to enjoy nature. We really enjoyed strolling thru the grounds, even with the oppressive Texas summer heat. Worth a stop if you like beautiful landscaping and plants. Also has nice gift store, where we purchased a couple items.

I and two friends visited the Pleasant Hill Winery just outside Brenham for the first time. The setting was very enjoyable, the wine selections were quite good, and the staff was so friendly. We sat outside on the open-air covered deck. It was a lovely experience. We all bought wine there and plan to return at some point.

went here on a beautiful Saturday afternoon with group of "home brewers"....place had fantastic beer and great little outdoor seating area.....in the heart of downtown Brenham......one of the owners happens to be a neighbor of ours, and they were more than happy to show us the brewery and answer any questions we had about the process of making beer.

My daughter and I went to Windy Winery yesterday and enjoyed it immensely! The tour was short but informative. Augustus was very knowledgeable and welcome to our questions. We had the cheese plate and sandwiches which were very good. I have seen several people fuss that the wine tasting is $12 for five. That is pretty much in line with the others that we have done. Also, this winery gave us a substantial bit more wine then most of the others! We set out on the patio with a beautiful view of the Vineyard while we enjoyed our wines. I have never found many white wines that I liked, but absolutely fell in love with their Texas Blanc du Bois. All the staff is very friendly and accommodating. Would definitely recommend stopping by if you were in the area!

Plan your trip during the Lavender Festival. Extra local vendors will be on site. It is a small, quaint operation that has impressive selection of homemade soaps, honey, candles etc. A great place to stop when visiting Chappell Hill.

While we were walking around Downtown Brenham, we stumbled across this pocket park across the street from Ant Inn/Benham Grill, adjacent to a store that sold antique doors that caught our attention. It is a beautiful historic park including an historic cistern. Beautifully landscaping and informative signs about how cisterns were used and how they work. Great spot for photography or just sitting down on a bench and resting in a very peaceful spot.

The Brenham Heritage Museum is a museum presenting the rich history and culture of Brenham and Washington County. Our exhibits range from local tradition to art to the Civil War. The Museum has collections of cameras, wedgewood, militaria, and much more! Free tours available. Children and students are always free. Groups welcome.
If you have some spare time while visiting Washington County, Texas, drop in at the Brenham Heritage Museum, located in the old Post Office building. While I still consider this museum a work in progress, it does provide the visitor with information about early life in Brenham and the surrounding area. Photographs are permitted. During the time I was there, the museum staff were providing educational activities to a group of children; this is a great service.

The Christmas Historic Home Tour has three homes available for touring during the first weekend of November: The Giddings Wilkin House, Ross Carrol Bennett House and the Giddings Stone Mansion. Saturday only. Price is $5 per person per house. Pay with cash or check. No Credit Cards.
The Ross Carrol Bennett home is a beautiful 3-story Victorian structure built in 1898. The home is beautifully furnished and has unique architectural details inside. Lots of period furniture. Original wallpaper. Gorgeous wood work!
Period dressed docents in the front room and upstairs give historical facts about the Ross family, Carrol family and Bennett family.
Vendors have tables throughout the home i.e. specialty jellies and honey for sale in the kitchen and several jewelry tables in the second living room/parlor.
Amazing architecture and woodwork detail.
