Our 1.5 - 2 hour trail ride with Becky was amazing! My kids and I are relatively inexperienced riders, but she provided very thorough instructions and frequently checked in with us during the ride. The scenery was breathtaking, and the horses were wonderful. I would highly recommend Hell's Backbone Ranch and Trail to anyone looking for a fun way to see the beautiful scenery in this area.

Hike with us in wild, remote Utah. We’re the authors of "Hiking from Here to WOW: Utah Canyon Country.” But we’ve decrypted many cross-country dayhikes we’ll never publicize. The scenery is national-park quality. And the solitude is delicious. Few hikers realize that Boulder is to slickrock hiking what Moab is to slickrock biking. What they miss here is astonishing. Let us show you.

South of Zion National Park, this area is recommended.
Vermilion Cliffs National Monument isn't the whole red cliff area. It runs from Northwest Arizona through South Utah. The drive from Cameron AZ (North of the Grand Canyon South Rim) to Kanab and St George is incredible. Red cliffs for over 100 miles and that's just from the highway. Along the route we took US 89 and US 89a: Glen Canyon, Vermilion Cliffs, Navajo Bridge (crosses the Colorado).

Our family of 3 (mom, dad, tween son) want to let you know that this part of Scenic Highway/Byway 12 in Utah is different than all the rest of it and super scenic! My husband drove so our son and I could take in all the sights, and there were many! Elk up in the forested higher elevation! I’m specifically reviewing the section of highway from the town of Escalante to north of the town of Boulder, Utah and up Boulder Mountain. Just north of Escalante, there is a place to turn off which is extremely scenic…you can see miles of yellow rock topped off by red dirt against the clear blue sky. There is parking and stone block walls to lean against and info to read about what you’re seeing as you span across the lower areas with interesting rock formations. You can even see the road up ahead which is newly blacktopped and winding. Then as you drive north on 12 and climb the mountain, look ahead. There are some turn-offs for pictures. It’s just plain amazing…staring off into the wild blue yonder of the Staircase you can see so much and many colors and topography: Henry Mountains, Waterpocket Fold in Capital Reef National Park, Little Rocky Mts, Circle Cliffs, Navajo Mt, Kaiparowits Plateau, Boulder Town. Oh the colors! My husband driving said he couldn’t look at anything as he had to keep his eyes on the road, as other reviewers have mentioned. But my son and I took it all in and can only say you have to see this to believe it and remember it! Then we arrived at Capital Reef, but that’s another review!
