Once visiting the Hoover Dam I recommend to make it to the bridge as well. Although its magnificence is more obvious from the road underneath, the bridge at the other hand offers a beautiful view to the dam and you can find there a few information panels with the facts about its history.
There is a small parking just next to the trail leading to the bridge, but it is not easy to find a place there. Free toilets are also available.

Hoover Dam, once known as Boulder Dam, is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between Arizona and Nevada. Hoover Dam impounds Lake Mead, and is located near Boulder City, Nevada. Paid parking, visitor center and guided tours.
At about 700 feet tall, the Dam spans the Black Canyon of the Colorado River between Nevada and Arizona. Nothing grows on the mostly brown rocks. On one side of the Dam is a steep drop to the lower section of the river and the power plant. On the other side, much higher, is Lake Mead. Walking over the Dam it is mesmerizing. The history and the building of the Dam are incredible. You miss half of the drama if you forgo the museum.

The Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum is located in historic downtown Boulder City, inside the Boulder Dam Hotel. The Museum can be accessed on the first floor of the Hotel.
We were stayng at the adjoining hotel and popped in to the museum, thinking it would take only five minutes. However, it was more informative and innovative than the exhibits at the Hoover Dam, so we spent longer than planned. It made the era come alive, and is worth a visit if you are in Boulder City, which is a charming place, btw. If Vegas isn't your thing, and yet you need somewhere to stay near the Dam, this is it.

I'm so glad I read about this on TripAdvisor. Between July and November these animals come down to graze in this park from the nearby mountains. They're used to people but you have to use common sense since they're still wild animals - so make use of your telephoto lens and don't get too close! We stopped by two days in a row since we were in the area - the first day there were about 25 sheep there, the second day there were around 40. It was amazing watching the baby trying to butt its mother's head after seeing two rams locking horns. A National Geographic moment!

Don't rush for the dam and crossing the state line over the Colorado river... Take the time to read the plaques around this beautiful monument and listen to the wonderful commentary associated with it. These are *top-notch* Art Deco pieces and the entire setting is awe-inspiring!

Boulder City is just a short drive from Las Vegas, and so well worth it. The NV State Railroad museum consists of a few large engines, a few passenger cars (not accessible), a mail sorting car and caboose (both accessible). While accessible - it is not wheelchair or handicap accessible. Only 3 or 4 steps, but they are a bit of a stretch. Loved the clear and easily readable signs detailing the history etc. We spent about 30 minutes viewing the engines and train cars. LOVE the fact that it is free and open air.
Next to the museum, they have opened a "self powered" train ride. Looked like tons of fun, but sadly we didn't have the time the day we visited to partake.

the staff working at the visitor center was very knowlegable about the area and the options available to visitors. the weather was fair not too much wind and sunny. I suggest that you visit their website to obtain an additional wealth of information about this location. There is an entrance fee which is good for one week from date of purchase so you can return multiple times within that time frame.

I'm a flatlander from florida..this trail kicked my butt but I loved every minute of it. Incredibly scenic mountain trails. Wide visibility but rocky narrow trails. Not for those with fear of heights. Many cliff trails. I stayed on green trails that, although they are considered the easiest, are only the easiest on this mountain, not inherently easy. I'm intermediate/advanced rider in Florida but this a different animal, and a really fun challenge. Would have gone back for second day but legs were toast!

What they don't tell you about their train rides is that they travel only between the depot and the Railroad Pass Hotel and Casino which is a distance just over three miles and in full sight of the highway on one side. Consequently it was of no value to me and as I hadn't researched enough I have only myself to blame. At least it was a nice day and I got a chance to see some kids really enjoying themselves and soaking in the awe of the big machines.
So, if you want to take your kids out for an actual train ride with very low risk and a reasonable cost, this is a great opportunity to do so. The crew are all very friendly and helpful and, as volunteers, they are pleased to be able to show off their skills and genuinely seem to be pleased that you are there.

This is a well kept park with lots of shade and beautiful lush green grass. Boulder City knows how to put on a fantastic Independence Day Celebration. There are events that run all day and their fireworks display was top notch.
