Boonville’s River, Rails, & Trails Museum & Visitor’s Center is located in the heart of the historic Depot District, right next to the Boonville Katy Trail head at 100 East Spring St. Our museum features exhibits on Boonville's rich transportation history. Some exhibits include: a half scale replica Keel Boat, wagons, steamboat artifact, model train displays, and much more! Our location offers easy access to many exciting attractions, restaurants, and shops! Located just across the street you can find the beautiful Katy Depot, Katy Caboose, Champion Bicycle, the Isle of Capri Casino, and the iconic Katy Bridge! We are also within walking distance to the Antique Mitchell Motor Car Museum and historic downtown. From maps, tours, and visitor guides to driving directions and restaurant suggestions, the staff at the Visitor Center will help you plan your stay!
Very cute little museum in the visitors center that includes a replica of a keel boat that Lewis and Clark would have used for supplies. Lots of information and very helpful and friendly staff members. We were just in town for a short time, but since we love to look at old homes and architecture, they had a wonderful Boonville Walking History Tour Book with colorful pictures and descriptions of the notable homes in the area. We drove around looking at them and reading the history behind each one. That booklet is a real treasure at only a cost of one dollar. We drove past the casino, the riverfront, and the old Cooper County Jail - but we were there too early to tour it or go inside the hanging barn. Definitely plan to come back when we have more time to spend exploring.

This museum was a highlight of my time in Boonville. It houses a collection of very unusual Mitchell autos that was assembled by a descendant of the Mitchell family. Our tour guide, Jade, did a great job of explaining the history of Mitchell autos and also explaining what motoring was like in the early days so it went far beyond seeing some cool old cars. She had some great stories about assembling the collection. I think the website says tours are available "by appointment" which may sound a little intimidating- check in the visitors' center next door to see what tours they have scheduled.

Welcome to Katy Trail State Park, the longest developed rail-trail in the country. Whether you are a bicyclist, walker, equestrian, nature lover or history buff, the trail offers opportunities for recreation, a place to enjoy nature and an avenue to discover the past. The park, built on the former corridor of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (MKT or Katy), is 240 miles long and runs between Clinton and Machens with 26 trailheads and four fully restored railroad depots along the way.
We visited the Katy Trail State Park near Jefferson City. The trail is used for biking and hiking. From the trail-head at north Jefferson City there is a trail to Missouri's capitol city across the Missouri River Pedestrian - Bike Bridge. We walked the trail for an hour enjoying the birds, forest, and wild flowers. Next time we will walk the other direction for different views.

We just happened on this Christmas homes tour while in Boonville and were pleasantly surprised. Missouri Daughters of the American Revolution had an open house with Christmas trees in every room. Interesting, and at Christmas, the house was incredibly festive. The tour was informative. I also learned so much from our gracious D.A.R. ladies.I will make it a annual Christmas visit.

Historic home, built in 1882,and farm still owned and preserved by the Leonard family.
My husband and I toured Ravenswood in 1974. Charles and Mary Leonard showed us through what was then their private home .Charles was very serious, while Mary was VERY funny. It was a beautiful Fall day, the leaves were changing colors. We stood on the porch chatting with Charles and Mary...extremely interesting. It was such a wonderful experience, I wrote them a thank you, after we returned home. Much to our (very pleasant) surprise, we received a Christmas card from them. This started a correspondence with Mary, that lasted for a long time. She was such a wonderful person, and I have kept the cards. It is a beautiful memory, and I always intended to return, but never have.
