Bodhi Tree

Reviewed By KarmaTempa - Gangtok, India

The inner sanctum of The Maha bodhi stupa is surreal.Once can just meditate there for hours even though so many people are doing their rounds of the stupa.Just to be in the very place where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment is enough to make it even more special. The evening times were even more beautiful with the colorful lights on the stupa and the chanting of prayers. One can just get lost in time here with no thoughts and that is precious. The only thing which can be changed is the guards whistle, which they blow to let people know that the timing of closing down the area is at hand.It is really disturbing and destroys the peace of the sanctum.

the Monastery can be visited on the way to or while coming back from the Buddha Statue, but do try to make it during daylight as the brilliance of the colours in and outside the Monastery is better captured then. Once, in Oct'14, we were fortunate to be there a day prior to His Excellency, the Royal Highness, King of Bhutan's visit; and saw the decorations in the extreme glory!!

We really enjoyed. As a Buddhist it's a must visit place. Better to have a travel guide as India is still a developing country. Hard to survive on your own because hard to trust people there. But very nice place to visit.
