Dirt Farm Brewing

We are comfortably nestled in Blue Ridge Mountains 1 mile outside of the village of Bluemont. From plow to pint, our focus is small batch hand crafted beer from fresh ingredients grown on our family farm, Great Country Farms. The Brewery is a natural " fermentation" extension to our 400 acre farm. The Zurschmeide family has been farming in Loudoun County for over 40 years. Our name, "Dirt Farm" pays homage to our farming heritage that spans three generations. We are grateful to work and play surrounded by our own family and many friends. We welcome you to bring yours & slow down a bit the Country. It is an exciting time in the Virginia Craft Beer Industry. We have only scratched the surface with farming and beer.

We've been to Bluemont Winery a few times already, and today we decided to go for the brewery beside it - what a great surprise! The ambiance was super nice, the view amazing as expected, and the beer was great. Totally worth the ride!

Raven Rocks

I was looking for another outdoor adventure and decided to take a look at my trail app. There I found an article about Raven Rock. Since it was less than two hours away, I decided to check it out. My six year old grandson decided to join me. We got to the beginning of the trail early in the morning, and began our hike just before 7AM. The hike was much longer than I expected, and even longer with a six year old. The trail is VERY rocky. It is a roller coaster that requires you to crawl down into a valley and cross a creek, and then come up on the other side - TWICE. The hike is a little under six miles round trip. With a 6 year old it took about five hours including stopping on top and enjoying the view for 1/2 hour. There was a lot of fungi (mushrooms) along the way, and the scenery was astonishingly beautiful. My grandson enjoyed it very much and was a true sport throughout. If you plan on taking this hike, ensure that you have water, snacks, sturdy hiking boots (not tennis shoes), and a walking stick.

My boyfriend and our dog went to Great Country Farms early in September. With the farm only a few minutes off route 7, it was super easy to get to. We arrived a little bit after 11 AM, and there was still lots of parking, though we had a few minutes walk to the entrance. You pay for admission (they had a credit card machine), get your wrist band, and enter though their cafe. Once inside we saw the farm animals, walked through the grass/bamboo/corn mazes, and roasted marshmallows. Even though dogs are allowed, we couldn't find any dog bows with water. On our way out, we picked up some apple cider doughnuts and apple cider. The doughnuts were so yummy!

Bluemont Vineyard

This was our first time back to Bluemont Vineyard since the COVID-19 Pandemic and we were so pleased with the experience! We were made to feel welcome, comfortable and safe. So many businesses are struggling to find this balance but Bluemont Vineyard has mastered it and I believe this was one of the nicest visits we have had with them. We enjoyed wine tasting, a couple of bottles of wine and lunch, and received great service. And there are no words to explain the AMAZING views! Just make sure that if you are visiting on the weekend, to book your table. There is a $30.00 nonrefundable deposit that goes towards your final bill but they are flexible with moving it to another date if you let them know in a reasonable amount of time. We've been coming out here for years (on weekends) and haven't had a bad experience yet.
