Colonial Gardens

Colonial Gardens sells flowers, trees and food. We plant, teach and celebrate all things outdoors, but most importantly, we create experiences. Here, people find solutions, inspiration and connections. We want to help people reconnect with nature. By strengthening our relationship with the earth, we can build a better future for ourselves and the planet.

This garden center is 100% AMAZING and I never get tired of going there! I go there at least once a month during the month and as it warms up, I find myself going there on a weekly basis. Even if I don't buy anything (which doesn't happen very often!), it is so relaxing just to walk around at the plants and browse. Colonial Gardens is so much more than a garden center. As you enter Colonial Gardens, you'll see a market set-up with fresh produce that they grow on the property or in the greenhouse along with other local products like wine, meats, honey, and other goodies. I bought several Christmas gifts there last year. The inside products change seasonally. In the courtyard area, there is room for live music with metal tables and chairs. Past the courtyard is the area where trees and shrubs can be found. I have spoken to several of the staff there when I was looking for the perfect tree and they were all extremely helpful and kind. I even met the owner who knows EVERYTHING about the trees there. I've eaten in "The Bean Counter" cafe which is near the courtyard. The food is fresh and reasonable and don't forget to get a dessert that are made there on the premises. I think my favorite is the bread pudding which is made from day-old cinnamon rolls and pastries. Their breakfast is especially good too! On the other side of the building is a large greenhouse that is always filled with houseplants and seasonally, it contains annuals, herbs, garden vegetables, and beautiful ferns and hanging baskets. They also have a great selection of succulents. Outside that door is an outside area that has perennials including a HUGE variety of hostas and heucheras, more than I have ever seen anywhere else in the KC metro area. Last fall, they had a butterfly area set-up and you could go in and see the butterflies close-up. Again, the staff is always great about helping me find the right plant for my gardens at home. Bonus: many of these perennials are grown locally! I've seen some photo shoots done there and I can see why. It is absolutely gorgeous. Be sure to take some time to look outside of Colonial Gardens as well because the landscaping around the building and grounds is beautiful. Lots of natural-looking boulders, a dry riverbed, and native plants sprinkled throughout. All in all, you are going to want to spend quite a bit of time here, especially during the spring, summer, and fall when everything looks amazing! I've also been to a couple of classes and events they have had here and find them fun and informative. Again, the staff definitely makes the experience unforgettable. Thank you Colonial Gardens staff! You always remember my name and make me feel like family.
