The Bicol Region, also known simply as Bicol, (Central Bicolano: Rehiyon nin Bikol/Kabikolan; Rinconada Bicol: Rehiyon ka Bikol; Filipino: Kabikulan; Spanish: Bicolandia) is a region of the Philippines, designated as Region V. Bicol comprises six provinces, four on the Bicol Peninsula mainland (the southeastern end of Luzon) – Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Sorsogon – and the offshore island provinces of Catanduanes and Masbate.

Matukad was the second island I visited during my first trip to Caramoan. Its beach has pristine shallow waters and ivory powdery sand. Trees line the shoreline, providing shade.
Matukad island will take your breath away—figuratively and literally. Behind a vast limestone wall hides a lagoon where the two so-called “Enchanted Bangus (milkfish)” are found. To reach the lagoon, visitors have to climb the limestone wall. There are no safety harnesses, ropes, pulleys provided. Once you start climbing, hold on; any misstep will not be pretty. It is about forty feet high.
The rock surface on the usual path taken by tourists are less jagged and less sharp, but will only be passable to one or two people. During my first visit there, there was only a handful of tourists; when I returned two months later, the place was packed and there was a queue of people climbing. More adventurous guests may try the sharper but less crowded parts of the wall to avoid the queue. At the top of the rock ledge is a stunning view of the Islands. At the bottom of the other side of the rock ledge is the lagoon where the two milkfish are. Visitors can get close to the lagoon but rocks at this side of the rock ledge are sharper and looser.
I do not recommend wearing rubber shoes for the climb as the bulky shoes may be difficult to fit in small crevices. Slippers would do fine. When I climbed the rock wall, I used aqua shoes and it worked great; it had good traction and the jagged edges of the rocks were not troublesome. The compactness of the aqua shoes enabled me to anchor my foot inside smaller holes and crevices.
The lake was clear and tranquil; despite numerous trees surrounding the area, the lagoon’s surface was unobstructed by fallen leaves, etc. My guide told me the story of how there were two milkfish that lived in the lake until a local caught one and fed it to his family; the enchanted milkfish allegedly cursed the fisherman causing his son to fall ill and die. Enchanted or not, the lagoon and the entire island deserves our respect. (It is sad to note that I had to pick up rubbish thrown along the rock ledge by previous guests; some of the rocks had vandalism, too.)

From the church you get an excellent view of Mayon volcano. The church itself is Mexican style and dates to the Spanish time. The church actually replaced the Cagsawa church buried in the eruption of Mayon. The parish priest is also friendly and accommodating. Plenty of Sunday masses. Starting 5:30 pm, Saturday. Sunday: 5 am, 6:30 am, 8 am, 9:30 am, 11 am, 4 pm, 5:30 pm and 7 pm. All different choirs, all excellent. Good restaurant nearby, Red Labuyo.

When you arrive there and do the registration, you watch a video that shows you what you can do and more important: what you shouldn't do while swimming with the whale shark (if you are lucky to encounter one). When there is enough people to go on the boat, the exciting journey begins, all the way, you keep looking for some dorsol fins and when it happens, the boat speeds up so you can jump before the whale shark comes so you can swim with it (because maybe you don't imagine that these creatures sWim so fast)...
We were in an amazing boat, we were lucky enough that day: We had the chance to swim 5 times with 2 different whale sharks. It was really magic, i would do that evereday if i could.

One secluded pink beach located at matnog, Sorsogon where you can relax and enjoy the serenity of the place. It has a fine sand and you can get there from Manila by taking a bus and plane. If by bus, ride Manila to Matnog. If by plane, Manila to Legazpi and take the bus from Legazpi to Irosin town and take the jeep from Irosin to Matnog.

Known to only a few tourists, Buntod Sand Bar and Sanctuary is a perfect weekend getaway. It is just a 30-minute ride from the city through a motorized boat. The reef is still rich with corals and diverse fishes, and there are giant clams! If you are in the Masbate, it is a perfect place to chill, swim, kayak and snorkel.

Truly one of the best places to spend the sunrise! It's worth being awake by 3am, travel an hour, trek 30-40minutes up from the beach. Simply awesome and probably like the rolling hills of Batanes. Covered with grass, the multilevel hills open up to the heavens above, and the sea below. So breathtaking.
You have to have stable footing or careful steps. Travel light but dont you dare forget your camera. You could spend 2 hours in here. Or maybe more. You will need water and maybe a change of clothes (if you're sweaty like me) after. Absolutely not to be missed!

There were very few tourists when we visited. The view looks great! You can clearly see the Mayon volcano. You can ride the raft for P25.00 each person around the lake. They were building a new restaurant near the lake. You can also try other activities like kayaking.
