The Church of Sant Pere (St. Peter), known by everyone as the Chapel of Crist de la Mar, stands beside the Port. Traditionally, the Crist de la Mar has always been deeply worshipped by the people of Benicarló. Indeed, legend tells us that in 1650 a felucca arrived on the beaches of Benicarló from which César Cataldo disembarked, carrying with him an image of Christ on the Cross. His arrival was deemed to be prodigal and the miracles performed by the sainted image even more so.
