Beech Fork State Park

A lake area with good camping and boating.

Reviewed By tripmom56 - Huntington, West Virginia

Have been to this state park many times. If you are looking for a great place to take the family or just to get away for a nice weekend, this is it. We have tent camped here for a number of years and are now in our 31 year old Minnie Winnie. Campsites vary from full service to primitive. There are plenty of paved roads in the campground area to ride bikes. You can fish at the lakeside. There is a pool across the road, but it closes Labor Day weekend. There is a dump station, small camp store (with great ice cream), firewood at $5/bundle. Each site has a fire ring and a picnic table. Most sites have trees. Bath houses are older, but clean. Plenty of hot water. :-). Lots of ducks, Canadian geese, the occasional Great Blue Heron, deer, hawks, an occasional Bald Eagle and other wildlife to watch. It is always very quiet during quiet hours and the area is patrolled by park ranger. There are a few trails, as well. If a cabin is more your style, the cabins are really nice with fully equipped kitchens, large dining/living areas and great lake views. Check it out! FYI :after Labor Day campsites are half price!

Blenko Glass Company Studios & Gallery

The vibrant colors of the glass are like being inside a kaleidoscope. They dance before your eyes. Their cobalt is as blue as blue gets. There are premier and seconds available. You can walk out on the catwalk and watch them in action. There are also opportunities for an individual to make a piece of glass.

We visited Huntington in hopes of finding some culture and history. We were disappointed to say the least. We happened to drive by this rose garden and glad we stop. It was one on only a couple places in the area we found interesting or nice. The roses and garden were beautiful.

Cleo's Attic

I found this little gem while driving through Proctorville. Cleo's Attic specializes in Vintage and Antique GLASSWARE -- think of Depression Glass and Fenton Glass. The store is well designed with wide aisles and all the glass divided by colour. There is a huge selection and the gentleman who was there when I shopped was very informed about glassware and answered my questions. Overall, I was very pleased. My only suggestion would be that they keep boxes and wrapping paper/bubble wrap/styrofoam peanuts on hand for packing purchases.

Sky Dive WV

We took the student coarse with a tandem jump then a solo jump. We highly recommend the experience just don't expect the staff to be friendly nor efficient. The staff is safe and experienced but lacking social skills. Don't expect the day to go in a timely fashion - we waited overr 8 hrs to do our solo jump while "walk ins" were accomodated immediately. The video is pricey yet they will photograph you for their website and advertisement without your permission. We loved both jumps, prefered the solo. Yes, it is dangerous however it is not hard. We both are over 40 and we found it to be smooth and relaxing. Follow the instructions and all goes well. Not a very professionally run business nor our they attentive to those who just plopped down hundreds of dollars.

Huntington Museum of Art

Huntington Museum of Art (HMA) opened on November 9, 1952. Incorporated in 1947, its creation was made possible by the generosity of the community and a group of citizens led by Herbert Fitzpatrick, who donated his art collection of 435 objects and 52 acres of land for the Museum's location. Today, as the only nationally accredited visual art museum of its size in the Tri-State region, HMA encompasses a permanent art collection of over 15,000 objects, ten exhibition galleries, an interactive education gallery, art reference library of over 26,000 volumes, 287-seat auditorium, tropical and subtropical plant conservatory, two outdoor sculpture courts, five studio workshops, two miles of hiking trails, and quarter-mile paved accessible Sensory Trail.

The Old Timey Shop

Reviewed By Lspdoll - Milton WV

Nicely curated, interesting and, for the most part, gently priced antique market. With Blenko Glass literally down the street, many of the vendors have Blenko and Pilgrim glass. as well as furniture, clothes and tchotches.(you know-nick nacks in Yiddish). The floor is appropriately squeaky, and there are all sorts of corners and nooks with nice things waiting for you to come upon them.
