Maine state park that offers a scenic walk along Casco Bay.
We visited on a cool, sunny fall day when conditions were perfect for walking and enjoying the water views. It was too late in the season to see any ospreys, but the island nesting site was visible from the shore. We encountered a number of other visitors, some of whom were jogging, others walking a dog, and some who were there hoping for great pictures. It's a beautiful area.

My father and I had a terrific August 2015 trip on the Saguenay Fjord (Quebec) with Cathy and new staff member Will. Whales and seals galore, great company, and beautiful weather at each end of our trip. Learn enough French ahead of time to communicate with marine mammals and to read pit toilet instructions.
A very sound investment and highly recommended!

We brought our kids here and they enjoyed the stop! We parked at the Episcopal Church on Washington Street, which had about 4 spots (we snagged the last one). From there it's a short walk to the end of the street, then a turn onto the path to Giant's Stairs. It isn't long, maybe a quarter of a mile. At the end there are the stairs themselves as well as several other rocky areas and formations. My sons had fun climbing around on the rocks. I enjoyed seeing the pretty ocean views. This was also a great excuse for us to detour to Bailey Island as we were driving up the Maine coast - the entire journey had stunning views and we greatly enjoyed it.

This state park is the former home of Arctic explorer Robert Peary.
We ended up going to Eagle Island on a seal watch cruise. We hadn't even seen the blurb about visiting Eagle Island so we weren't aware of the stop there. I have sled dogs here in Vermont and have read many books on arctic exploration so I'm very aware of Perry's exploits. I found the tour of his old family home and island to be extremely interesting and a wonderful surprise. We used the self guided tour which provided a lot of information about Perry as well as his family and the home that he built there on Eagle Island. The island itself is beautiful.

I would highly recommend this to anyone. What a beautiful ship, great owners and fabulous scenery. You can't go wrong. Captains Perry and Bethany are the nicest people and are great sailors. No worries for anyone who is new to sailing. They are very experienced and you are in great hands. What a relaxing, beautiful time we had. 2 hours was not enough. I think the price is fabulous. They do 2, 4 or 6 hour tours. They also do a sunset cruise and some overnight camping trips so check their website. Sometimes their small children come along. Margaret is an adorable 4 year old who already has her sea legs. Calypso is a toddler but she loves the water and isn't afraid of anything. A true Maine experience that should not be missed. Bethany even served fruit and homemade bread. I can't wait to do this again the next time I am on Bailey Island.

Located right off Route 24, there is a dirt parking area and trails on both sides of the highway. It's just a short walk through the woods to Long Cove on one side and Gun Point Cove on the other.

We spent several lovely hours on the deck of this gorgeous spot, just sitting in Adirondack chairs, enjoying the breeze, and people watching. They have reasonably priced souvenirs and t-shirts, Maine crafts, and the best store bought fudge I have ever had. Incredibly beautiful view makes the whole experience outstanding!

Bridge connecting Bailey and Orrs islands.
This bridge is an engineering feat. There's something romantic about it, too - the architecture, the setting, the natural beauty around it. Enjoy some great coffee and scones at the Salt Cod Cafe on the Orrs Island side and enjoy the view!

Let's go lobstering on a real 30' Maine Lobster Boat! Watch while licensed Captain and Registered Maine Guide Jay McGowen hauls traps and see firsthand what we catch. We'll talk about the history of lobstering while the traps are baited and reset. Learn how lobsters live, grow, and eat. On the way we will watch for seals, porpoises and a variety of sea birds. Private or semi-private charters.
My family has been going to Maine for years on vacation and this trip was something I wish we would have found a long time ago. With my wife and my son and our grandson all waiting at the dock @ Cook’s (very easy to find and access) we met Captain Jay and boarded the lobster boat. From the moment we stepped on the boat Captain Jay had both boys’ full attention and the learning experience was underway. From wood traps of old to the modern traps of today we pulled and baited traps and of course caught many lobsters. One of the last traps we pulled we brought up a female (yes you will learn the difference) that was estimated to be 7-8lbs and 50+ years old. Captain Jay was even a bit surprised at size of this catch! Just a great time and really was a special day.

Boat cruise to beautiful and historic Eagle Island State Park onboard the Marie L.
I really enjoyed going on the Marie L., and visiting Eagle Island. My family and I took the 10AM boat out to Eagle Island, and spent around 2 hours out there exploring the island. It was beautiful out there, and the entire family enjoyed the trip.
The Captain on the boat was very friendly and gave us some good recommendations and other things to do in and around Maine.
We highly recommend this trip if you are visiting Maine, or if you live here and have never visited Eagle Island!
