Apollon Smintheus Sanctuary, located in Gülpınar Town of Çanakkale's Ayvacık district, is one of the most important sanctuaries in Anatolia during the Hellenistic Period. B.C. In this historical area, which dates back to the 330s, there are sections such as temptation, water tanks, baths, sports area, sacred road remaining from the Hellenistic and Roman Periods. You can get in here with Museum Card. The sacred personality named Apollon Smintheus, the Lord of Mice, is mentioned in Homer's Iliad epic. The word smintheus is thought to come from the word "sminthos", which means "mouse". Apollo killed the mice that damaged agriculture with his arrows and punished the bad people with the diseases (plague etc.) he produced from mice. At the same time, Apollo had prophesied by looking at the water in this sanctuary and served many people. There are mouse figurines on the stairs of the sanctuary at the entrance.
