Looking to take a trip to where something big happened? Try Mastodon State Historic Site. The site is the home of the Kimmswick Bone Bed, one of the most famous and extensive Pleistocene ice age deposits of fossils, including a number of bones of giant mastodons. Interpretative trails and picnic sites dot the landscape and a museum tells the natural and cultural story of the Clovis culture, which existed in the area between 10,000 and 14,000 years ago.
On a beautiful fall day we headed to this park because neither of us had been there. After paying the$4.00/per person fee we watched a short movie about the area and exhibits we would be seeing. It was very informative. The displays were nicely done. We took one of the trails which was well marked. There were plenty benches to rest on. I recommend stopping there if you are in the area.

Even though Mother Nature had different plans, we took the tour in the cold rain. It was absolutely cool. The wolves were very active, and the two tour guides were amazing. The selection was amazing. The staff was also very knowledgeable and right there to answer questions. Everything could be purchased in small quantities so if there is a specialty tea or coffee you want to try, you can. This shop is in walking distance to The Blue Owl Cafe.

My boys had a great time playing laser tag, dodge ball and the small climbing wall. We were there while they had a $15.00 per kid deal for 90 minutes unlimited games with a drink and snack included plus $5.00 voucher for video games. Was a great way to let the boys run some energy off while it was raining.

Missouri has a wonderful network of State Parks and Conservation Lands. This Nature Center is one of the jewels of the Conservation Department. This area provides easy trails and longer more moderately challenging paved hikes. The hills provide a nice challenge during light walking. The indoor exhibits are also worth the time. Plus, I like the little library.

I took my grandchildren there. They jumped for 90 minutes and were worn out when finished. They had a great time. We will definitely be back.

Parking is extra, so bring $5 cash for parking.
Really good band played classic Halloween songs at the entrance and great pumpkin display of famous people's faces.
Be sure to use the porta-pottie before you get started because there are none in the park.
Dress for the weather and bring some extra cash for a really cool t-shirt!
Had a great time. Not really for little kids, but fun for anyone wanting a good scare.
