Because my wife and I toured Nashville over the last two days I decided not to pay the 27 dollar entrance fee but just did the above stated things here. I had paid enough in entrance fees the last couple of days but got a sense of what this place was all about by touring some of the building without doing the guided tour. I walked the grounds and shopped in the Gift Shop. It is certainly a grand place were big name acts plus up & coming stars play on this stage. I enjoyed it here by just doing what I did here today without costing me a dime expect the cost of a t-shirt to take home back to Canada.

I am thinking this experience is far more meaningful for fans of old-time country music which we are not. We had many friends recommend our going here, but we are thinking they must have meant for a show. The shows were sold out during our visit, but we did do the self-guided and backstage tour. Really, all this involves is doing in some dressing rooms, seeing a few video clips, hearing history from a tour guide and walking on to the stage. A huge fan might find this a really fabulous experience, but, for us, it wasn't exceptional other than to say we were on the stage at the Ryman if anyone cares. I think the highlight must be attending a show here as the rest of it was basically looking at artifacts behind glass and understanding the history of the theater. There is also an opportunity to record music which is probably fun if you have any singing talent, and you can have a professional photographer take a photo of you and your family on the stage. That's it folks. Fortunately, it wasn't a very expensive experience, and it was worth about what we paid.

Four Corners Yacht Club

Reviewed By JnAMcGhee - Brookville, Ohio

We were given a referral by our hotel in Brentwood to check out Percy Priest Lake (which we did and love and I wrote a review about it! ;-)) so we set off to find a place that had boat rentals available at last minute, but quickly learned this lake has slim pickins! One location wanted a $1500 cash or credit deposit in addition to the $300-$500 rental fee, other locations had no availability (admittedly, we were last minute planners). Four Corners had a deck boat available, the deposit was $200 in cash, $400 for an 8 hour rental ($437 after taxes) and we were good to go! We purchased what was left at Wallie World in the pool floats department (a two-person raft and an oversized noodle) and made our way to our deck boat. The "Deck Boat" is an open concept, sporty-like boat that isn't quite ski boat pretty/fast, but not quite pontoon pretty-ish/slow, in my not-a-real-seasoned-boater opinion. It has the bimi top (which was very handy to give us some shade from the sun during our paid-for-8-hours-but-ended-up-with-about-6 1/2-hours tour), a governor on the engine that tops out your speed at 20mph (understandable given that many other boats might be first time drivers as well...reduces damages, I'm assuming), and don't worry about bringing your own tunes on your phone to boat #12, it won't link to the bluetooth installed and the cord they give you won't work either. It's static FM channels only. Boat 12 also had to have an ignition switch installed quickly, shaving away at least 20 minutes of our rental period, because the boat they transferred us to that didn't have a broken key and damaged ignition switch, had no working radio/bluetooth option. 30 minutes after our 8 hour rental time began, we're rolling out. Well. Floating out.

Travis was the associate helping us and he was extremely polite and as fast as he could be fixing these things so we didn't lose too much more of our rental time.

Before they'll let you leave, there is a list of itemized charges of what potential damages you'll have to pay if you break that you have to sign before you leave the dock. When we were going to anchor down for the first time, we quickly realized the rope securing the anchor was not secured to the boat. *NOTE TO FIRST TIME BOAT RENTERS* CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOUR ANCHOR IS SECURED TO THE BOAT! Thank goodness, we were quick enough to catch the rope because replacing an anchor is expensive! We discussed how that's probably something the staff should review with renters in the event they don't have the forethought to check the security of the anchor.

We anchored down, floated/swam/fished for a while and went to get back in the boat, and the back ladder had ONE rung on it. Fortunately, of the four of us, one was still in the boat and remembered where the anchor compartment is located is also a collapsible ladder with a few more rungs. THANK goodness for two ladders! At the rear of the boat where most boats have sufficient ladders/decks that are made for getting in/out of the water, if you have little to no upper body strength, do NOT get out of these boats unless you have someone lifting you out of the water.

Also on our first stop was when we realized the depth finder did not work. At this point, we did not want to be charged for a broken ladder or a non-working depth finder so we called the only number given if there was an emergency (also the number in which we made our reservation) and got a busy signal for almost an hour. and a half! If you have a true emergency, send up smoke signals. Or, in a non-trying-to-creep-on-you way, ask the associate who helps familiarize you with the boat for their number. When I finally reached someone, a storm was rolling in and we were headed back anyways to get off the water and eat lunch at the Flip Flops Bar & Grille, they said they were making note of our complaints. We weren't charged for those items so I'm happy to report they understood we did not do the damage.

We ate a quick lunch and was back on the water with a couple hours left in our rental. We found another cove and anchored down so the guys could fish and we ladies could float in the last couple hours of sunshine. Wicked lighting and thunder appear quickly and have us heading back to the marina with an hour and a half left in our rental time. We were making better time than the storm and passed a large cabin-cruiser boat that had two ladies, a young boy, and a dog stranded. We were not about to leave this family on the water with the lighting and storm coming in and they didn't want to abandon their boat in the middle of a busy boat waterway where other boaters were passing by without a second glance. We informed the boat owners that we were renting our boat and didn't want to "buy it" so they made a quick call in to Heather at the marina (it was a miracle she got through the first time! Must've been a different number!) and said the towboat that was supposed to be there an hour ago hadn't shown up yet so one of our renters stopped to help, could they tow them in? She (Heather, I'm assuming?) said they would comp our gas for towing the big boat in because they had a slip at the marina. Thankfully, our novice group of captains did not damage either boat in the assistance of these kind ladies nor did we get hurt in the storm that rolled in and hammered down on Percy Priest Lake.

The only charge that appeared on our credit card was the rental fee plus tax ($437) so the ladies we towed in, or the marina, picked up the tab to replace the gas we used. We managed to tow that boat (2-3 times the size of our deck boat) in at a speedy 20mph, missed the storm by 5 minutes, and had 25 minutes left to spare in our 8 hour rental. It was a good day. :)

So, quick recap for boat renters, before you leave the dock:

1) Double check the anchor is secured to the rope and the rope is secured to the boat
2) Make sure any electronic device on board is working before you leave (depth finder, radio, bluetooth, etc.)
3) Make sure your ladders have all the rungs you need ESPECIALLY if you're planning on getting out and swimming. Eventually, you gotta get back in that boat. :-)
4) Ask for an alternate number just in case they don't have call-waiting.
5) Actually, just look at everything on the itemized price list of "If you break it, you buy it" and make sure each item is in tact and working before you leave.
6) Do NOT tow any other boat without permission from the owner of your boat. Keep you and your family safe before trying to help others. :-)

Happy boating on that beautiful lake! :-)

I was recently in Nashville to hear Joe Biden speak. This event took place at the lovely Schermorhorn Symphony Hall, which happened to be near our hotel. I had walked over during the daytime, in order that I could admire all of the lovely architectural features of the exterior. My understanding is that it is nowhere as old as it looks; it is quite stately and attractive. The inside is nice as well. Probably the biggest takeaway for me was the staff working the event; it must be stressful to have a dignitary with an entourage and Secret Service agents, but they were all good-natured, polite, and helpful. As you would expect in the South. The common areas are all well-kept, and the restroom was the cleanest I saw in Nashville. The interior of the Hall itself is sizeable, comfortable, and has plenty of room to get to your seat. I hope I have a chance to return there to hear music.
