Lydgate State Park is easy to get to from the main highway. It is very large and has plenty of room for extremely large crowds. It offers a nice beach where the sunbathers and swimmers have more than enough space to do their thing. Saw some people that were snorkeling. Above the beach is again an extremely large space for just putting out chairs and loungers. Plenty of room for a large or small picnic. You'll see some large lava formations out in the water, as well as, near the shore. Don't forget some heavy tides beating against the lava and shore. Restrooms and shower station are kept extremely clean. There is an area for children to play in a children area. Don't forget some hiking in a beautiful part of Kauai. There are plenty of chickens to make you feel at home.

I'm a very experienced receiver of massage, and was looking for an authentic lomi experience, and not just an overpriced "factory" massage at one of the larger resort spas. Angeline's is wonderful. The session started off with a steam and a salt scrub in the steam room, then a shower and a 4 handed massage. I was a little hesitant about having two therapists working on me at the same time, but any concerns I had quickly melted away. The therapists do some Hawaiian chanting as they start the salt scrub, and also at the beginning and end of the massage. It added a wonderful sacred feeling to the service. I can't say enough good things about my visit there.

We have visited these gardens five times. Each visit provides a little more insight into the dedication and hard work of founders, Ed & Joyce Doty who not only created one of the most special places on planet earth; but also DONATED it so that others can experience and enjoy it's peace and beauty in perpetuity,
The 3 hour ride & stroll was our choice (we've done the trek and figured our knees would be happier with a gentle ride/walk). It was captivating.
We are gardeners; so maybe our hearts appreciate this magical place and the work it do doubt took to bring it all together; but the combination of whimsy and nature combine to make this a most memorable place.
I also have to mention Na'Aina Kai has one of the most tasteful gift shops on the entire island. Lovely items in a wide range of pricing. I'm quite proud to bring some of these treasures home as special gifts for friends and fellow artisans.

This is a beach with a grassy park and a touching handmade, rustic alter dedicated to the local residents' friends and families. Lifeguards, facilities, plenty of shade and a reef to secure calm water makes it attractive for swimming and snorkeling. It is fairly deserted during the week but is well used by the locals who live in the modest homes lining the road to the beach during the week ends.

Love this beach, love proximity to restaurants and shops in Kapaa, love the waves, love watching the surfers. But too much plastic and trash has washed up on the beach, large and small. The sand even looks like small pieces of plastic are deliberately mixed with the sand. It is not trash left by people using the beach, it is mostly plastic dumped in the ocean. So very sad.
TIP: eat across the street at The Green Pig

We most frequently walk from the Waipouli area up to the end of Kappa; but sometimes we've walked all the way to Kealia. Not too crowded & most folks are using the path for exercise or enjoyable bike/walk jaunts. There were a few locals hanging out around the bathrooms at the bridge just south of Pono Kai but they were not threatening.
Overall a nice safe place for all - including families with kiddos.
We also did one walk from Kealia Beach all the way to the north end at Anahola - that's our favorite stretch... not as many people and we saw whales & lots of sea birds.

A farmers market for the benefit of the Anahola farm land lessees to sell their home grown produce, plants and value-added products. The farmers market also supports other local vendors and products.
While on our way to Hanalei, we spotted smoke rising from a roadside stand...the smell was marvelous! We decided to stop and were pleasantly surprised by how welcoming the staff was. We ordered the combo plate with wild boar and huli chicken. Each plate comes with corn on the cob and roasted red potatoes. My favorite was the wild boar! The portions are generous, and our family left with smiles on our faces. I know they have limited hours, but make time to stop here-you won't be disappointed.

Oh really is a shame the homeless situation. Walking along pristine beaches marred by the tents, garbage, crap left behind by the homeless. I walked in and out of one of the bathrooms. Yuck. You can be homeless and show some pride!
