This former fishing village on Portugal’s southern coast has become a popular resort. Spend a day on Alvor’s main beach, or find one of the smaller, secluded coves along the coastline. In the evening, stroll through the town’s narrow cobblestone streets, dine on fresh local seafood, and enjoy live music at one of the many lively bars.

If you are visiting Alvor you must visit the old church. If you walk up walking-/Restaurantstreet you'll arrive at a small Square were many old portuguese men meet. Take a left turn, walk up the street to the old street. Enter the church and look at the beatiful altar, paintings etc. DO NOT FORGET - leaving a coin or bill in the collection box!!

This is a beautiful walk on a very well-maintained boardwalk along the estuary with interconnected paths starting in town and along the beach. Always interesting to watch the tidal changes and all of the fish and bird life around the estuary. If you are really ambitious you can walk out to the jetty.

Visitors to Alvor could easily miss this place and if they did that would be a shame. The cemetery is a fascinating place full of beautiful headstones and interesting crypts. Touching tributes, written and photographic abound make this the sort of attraction you could lose yourself for an hour or more. We had the place to ourselves when we visited which added to the feeling of peace and tranquillity. A great place to come to get a break from the beach!
