When I visited Shambala for an afternoon Safari tour, I was pleased to see the wild cats were housed in large enclosures (and not small enclosures).
The surroundings were peaceful, green, well-maintained and clean. I wore tennis shoes for walking, and brought a packed lunch and several bottles of drinking water with me (because the weather was hot). There is a small gift shop on-site, but no dining cafe. So, I ate my packed lunch near the little lake on the preserve and enjoyed the quiet surroundings.
The wild cats looked healthy, although I'm sure they would prefer to be free in the wild - their true home. I saw lions, tigers, leopards, servals, bobcats, and a cougar. We were cautioned to not disturb the cats, and everyone complied with this request, without any problems. Everyone enjoyed themselves at Shambala and everyone was KIND to the big cats.

Decent hiking and bouldering at this state park, not from from Santa Clarita, CA. Supposedly there's been filming done out here (Star Trek as an example). Pretty easy to get around. Just make sure you have plenty of water, and plenty of gas in your car's tank as there's not much out there.

The cherry farm opens at 8am. The earlier you go, easier parking, less crowd and cooler weather!!
This is the LARGEST cherry farm in Palmdale. Also, the first cherry farm on that street. Therefore, lots of people stop by this farm. Yes... it does look like zoo, super crowded!!
The Admission: No admission fee. However, EVERYONE has to purchase minimum $5 of cherry. $3.75 per lb.
The Cherry: They only open up one section of the cherry. Size of the cherry is kind of small compared to the market. Not super sweet.
The Parking: Parking lot (FREE) and street parking. In the weekend, if you get there after 10am, the lot will be full. You can park across the street.
There are many staffs walking around in the farm, making sure people are in the right section.
Yes, it is easier to just go to the market and buy a box of cherry. HOWEVER, the experience of going to the farm, pick the cherry yourself. PRICELESS!! It is great family outing~

When you're visiting LA, among all the touristy things to do, take a short drive north of LA, checkout some of the desert/rural terrain and pay a visit to Animal Acres. Educational for adults and children, the guides give an informative tour where you can meet, greet and share some love with animals. Who else might be able to say that in LA not only did you go to Hollywood, Disney, Universal AND gave a belly rub to a pig!?!? I can!
Regardless of your lifestyle, finding out more about who and how things arrive in your grocery store is key making informed and educated choices. Most of us know or believe what we think about food based on what we might have seen in pictures, or out the window driving down the road, or in marketing that the food industry wants us to believe. Farm Sanctuary gives you the chance to see, touch and learn about these creatures lives in relation to the food, dairy and egg supplies.
The guides are knowledgeable, friendly and open. Not preachy at all, just sharing their information and happy to answer questions.
Check it out!

They are well versed in the fine art of winemaking and tastings. I've joined their wine club before but we couldn't drink it all and were giving away most of it, so we stopped. It's a great place to bring out of state guests to show them a local view of California wine tasting. They also offer educational classes and have specials for groups that want to meet here for a wine experience.

I found this place on the internet. I was pushing it a little with a four year old and a six year old. The four year old was just over the 40" mark so he could do the rookie go karts. That made the day. The two of them rode the karts at least five times. We also played golf. They played at least two courses. The key to the video games is that you prepay the amount you are willing to spend. When the money runs out, they are done. We had a great afternoon.

Today I had such a terrific day at Animal Tracks Inc, in Agua Dulce, Ca! This is a relaxed and very informative interactive activity for the whole family! Any age will Love this day venture!
Animal Tracks is a Non-Profit organization, with the motto of educating the public and provide a home for animals that can't be returned to their natural habitats.
The Staff is extemely informative and starts you off telling the background of the 2 homes which belonged to an old Western Movie actor Mr. Montana who wanted to rescue animals that needed homes from the Movie industry.
Firstly you are greeted by Robert Redford the horse! My alltime favorite actor and crush!
Then on to meet "Tanner" one of the golden Labs used on Marley and Me, he needed a home and found one at Animal Tracks, along with several other canine actors!
Then we moved on to learning about a Tarantula's life, a rare African Frog, lizard, scorpions, turtles, and several snakes, ending with holding a 16 ft. yellow and white Boa Constrictor!
Next we moved onto some abused rescued monkeys, several Wolves , ( who gave me kisses) ,pot belly pig, porcupines, kangaroo, serval, and ended with the beautiful Baboon! and much more.
This is a fantastic place to spend a day and or volunteer, and also give some financial assistance to help them out! They are doing a great job!
Please also check into PETA, they are trying to shut this facility down as they say the animals are being abused , but I didn't see any of that, the animals are all healthy, well fed and respond to the staff very comfortably! The animals are all very Happy!
We should all be happy to support organizations that not only educate, but give us a first hand chance to learn about all the fascinating animals, reptiles and insects that are part of this Amazing World God Created.

Fairly new so it's clean. Very well maintained. Not so big that you would lose the kids but enough attractions to keep them entertained for a few hours.
I wish that they would consider keeping the park opened until late because the Antelope Valley sun is just too intense.
More food choices would also be nice.
