We loved the museum. Gold coin donation....worth a bit more so chuck in some extra dollars. A correctional officer from the actual prison next door was on duty today and gave us a great insight into the lives of the prisoners both in the medium security complex the museum is connected to, as well as the minimum security prison ‘The Farm’ up the road. It was fascinating to to see some glimpses of past and present prison conditions in NSW. The actual ‘Trojan Horse’ used in a 1994 escape was pretty cool, as was bullet proof glass from Super Max and although grim....the collection of confiscated contraband was such an eye opener. Souvenir shop contains mountains of craft and hand made products from the inmates. At the end....the gallows....actual gallows. Crazy!

Extending over 2,664 square miles, this park contains Australia's highest mountain, Mount Kosciuszko.
My family and I spent 3 days in the park, doing the Rainbow lake walk, the Summit walk and the waterfall walk. The highlight was walking the Summit trail to watch the sunrise.

We enjoyed the hospitality of the Jindabyne parkrun with impressive views over Lake Jindabyne. This parkrun is very popular with tourists and the local volunteers do a great job in organising the event. This is an impressive body of water and offers a range of water sports. The bird life around the lake is also abundant. Thanks for your vote.

The Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre and cafe showcases the amazing history of the Snowy Mountains Scheme; from the early days of construction through to how it is operated by Snowy Hydro today. This is a must for any visitor to the Snowy Mountains region! The Centre houses a comprehensive exhibition hall including an extensive photographic collection, models, hands-on exhibits and a one of a kind immersive theatre. You will find information about the Scheme such as engineering, the environment, the National Electricity Market, history, water management and power generation. Take your turn on the “power bikes” and see if you can peddle hard enough to power a TV, make some toast or boil a kettle. You will also find screens displaying the Scheme working in real time. See which generators are operating, how much electricity they are producing and the prices of electricity in the market. Stay for a while, have a barista made coffee and light refreshments at the Discovery Centre Cafe.
Excellent Discovery Centre - showing 2 films, both very worthwhile and informative, combined with an excellent display. Learn about the exciting new Snowy 2.0 project. I spent a very enjoyable morning learning and revisiting memories. Staff knowledgeable, helpful and friendly and together with a Cafe making a great coffee - what more could you ask for.

I dropped my friend off upstream so that he could raft down the river. Apparently you can raft 20km in 3 hours. Anyway I spotted him at the banks of the council campground - a beautiful spot - and he kept going till just before the bridge over the Snowy Mts hwy. The river was deep and fast with swirls in it. Not for the faint hearted. Sitting by the banks was very enjoyable!

What a magical hidden gem with such great history. Just a small walk around the ruins and it is well worth it to see the ruins. We went there twice and near the far end at the cottage ruins we could not see a falls flowing the first time but when we went back after heavy rain it was like a different place! A must do and you can walk here from the town of Adelong, it takes about 2 km one way. “Jonique Life” Follow our journey around Australia on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube as we highlight wonderful experiences and magical places you can add to your ever growing bucket list.

We arrived in Adaminaby at 2.30pm on a Saturday and found that we had missed the opening times of this museum by half an hour! Feeling that this is a bit early for such a place to shut, we set off, mumbling, for our next stop, Cooma. After a visit to the Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre the next day, which we enjoyed very much - see separate review - we decided to backtrack to Adaminaby and visit the Museum. I'm so glad we did. (The limited opening hours are an unfortunate consequence of a shortage of volunteers to run this place - so we have to accept the early closing!) There's lots to see and read. Lots of history about the Snowy Scheme and how it was built, as well as displays of the equipment used, both large and small. The photos on display showed how hard it must have been for those workers and their families, especially in the early days. There were also some fascinating films being shown, which once again concentrated on the personal side. Don't miss the half hour long film of the history of the development of the Snowy Scheme - it's an 'oldie but a goodie'! The Snowy Mountains Scheme was truly a nation building project that changed our country. As such a trip around the beautiful Snowy Mountains region of NSW should be a 'must' for all and a visit to this museum will really help you appreciate it and the efforts of the pioneering people who built this magnificent infrastructure.
