Sugarloaf Pineapple Farm

They have reopened their tours from COVID they do them once a week on Thursdays at 10 a.m. I found them on Tripadvisor on a Wednesday evening and emailed them at 10 p.m. for a party of two. Jude called me back at 8 a.m. the next morning and was able to squeeze us in. That's quick service! The tour started with a history of their pineapple farm and how they got into the business. It was interesting and I just LOVE Jude's sense of humor! She went on to explain how pineapples are farmed and grown; very informative and interesting info! After that, we got to plant a pineapple sucker into the ground, as well as harvest our own pineapple. The pineapples on this tour were pretty small but it was just the right size to take back to our hotel room. We then got to taste some fresh cut sugarloaf pineapples, which were sweet and tasty! We were given the pineapple phrosties at the end of the tour, which was also delicious. It's an interesting tour and my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

After attending a big production luau and fire show at a prominent Hotel 2 days before this local family-run presentation was so much more authentic and creative and personal then I could have imagined. Don't be fooled by the modest surroundings . I would highly recommend that anyone looking for authenticity and presentation true to the culture, attend this wonderful show. The lead storyteller, was engaging and funny as well as informative. My friends and I agree we would would definitely go back for an encore!

Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge

We enjoyed a brief stop at Kilauea Lighthouse, and appreciated the efforts being undertaken to support and nurture wildlife in the area. A haven for sea birds, including huge albatross, and red footed boobies, it’s also supposed to be a great place for sighting whales this time of year. (Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t great on our visit, so we didn’t have much chance to look before we were getting soaked, and the ocean was too rough to readily discern spouting from the many whitecaps and waves crashing the shore. A very reasonable $10 entry fee for adults, kids 15 and younger are free.

It was hard (for me) to find where to turn into the gardens, but once we embarked on our tour it was well worth the effort. Informative and engaging tour guide, loved the fact that the property is self-sustaining, and we all appreciated the abundant, life-like bronze sculptures by a wide variety of artists. Highly recommend.

One of our favorite days in Kauai - what a great tour. We loved meeting the goats (including a couple of baby goats), learning about all the fruit trees (and trying some samples!) and the cheese-making process, and - especially - getting to taste all the varieties of cheese. What a lovely family farm!
