The Promise begins on the banks of the Paluxy River in historic Glen Rose, Texas. In the opening scene, a grandfather and his grandchildren, Billy and Lisa, explore the woods and riverbed in search of the dinosaur tracks that have made Somervell County a popular destination for visitors. As the sun sets, they stumble across an old campsite that reminds Grandpa of a story his own grandfather used to tell him in the same spot--the one about the Promise sent by God.As Grandpa begins to sing about the Promised One, the three find themselves among the Old Testament prophets who foretold the coming of Jesus. Immediately, Grandpa, Billy, and Lisa are swept up in the events of Jesus' birth, baptism, temptation, and ministry.Based on Scripture and incorporating the music of award-winning contemporary Christian artists, The Promise brings a modern touch to the most amazing story ever told. Audiences experience a smiling, approachable Jesus who reaches out to people and changes lives. With its sweeping musical score, live animals, and a cast and crew of more than 150 dedicated Christian artists, The Promise is truly the experience of a lifetime. The Promise is performed annually at Texas Amphitheatre--the largest permanent outdoor theatre in the state. With its Greco-Roman design and 3,200 seating capacity, this state-of-the-art facility is unexpectedly intimate, making it the perfect place to experience The Promise. Many features of the Texas Amphitheatre help communicate the story in a modern way--a water-filled moat, rain curtain, lighting truss with 600+ instruments, digital sound system, and more. Audiences truly have an extraordinary experience at The Promise in Glen Rose, Texas. The story of Jesus is timeless. But the season is not. The Promise will be performed Friday and Saturday evenings annually during the months of April & May, and September & October.
Outstanding performance by all actors! Enjoyed outdoor amphitheater with beautiful weather! Highly recommend for all to enjoy the sounds of beautiful music, costumes and spectacular voices!

Search for dinosaur footprints at this state park located along the Paluxy River.
Me and my two dogs started at what is called the Main track site. I carried my shih-tzu over the crossing rocks, but my terrier easily crossed. Very interesting. We then hiked down the river bed to the next track site and saw the tracks there in the water, and hiked around some. It was cold so we did not go in the water. I also drove down to the Blue Hole site (which is a swimming hole in warmer weather) and saw the sites there. Left the dogs in the car as the way down is going from rock to rock to rock and some climbing. My terrier could have done it with ease, but not my little senior shih-tzu. I found the tracks very interesting and the river is just gorgeous. If the weather was warm I could have waded across the river to see more tracks - but it was in the 40s! I had a little picnic lunch. Nice clean restrooms there.

Fossil Rim Wildlife Center is where Africa comes to Texas. Our 1,800-acre facility offers a 7.2-mile scenic drive where you can interact with approximately 1,100 exotic and endangered animals roaming free in herds. Drive through in your car, reserve your spot on a guided tour, or even spend a night at our Foothills Safari Camp or The Lodge to see 50-plus species of wild animals including cheetahs, wolves, giraffes, rhinos and more. The delicious food at The Overlook Cafe is paired with an incredible view overlooking the park and our Nature Store offers an array of souvenirs to take home to family and friends. While Fossil Rim is sure to provide a unique experience and exciting adventure, we are dedicated to the conservation of species in peril. Fossil Rim conducts scientific research, trains professionals, responsibly manages our natural resources, and is committed to public education.
After reading many reviews we decided to book the Guided Tour rather than driving ourselves and that was the BEST decision for many reasons: You get to sit and relax the entire time, the guide will give you interesting facts about the animals as well as how they behave in the park, you get food to feed the animals and lettuce for the giraffes, the animals gravitate towards the buses more because they KNOW they will get fed a lot, if your kids are scared of one of the animals (my youngest was scared of the giraffes) they have room to back away rather than scream in your car the entire time, you get closer to the animals by driving off of the paths AND the BEST part is you get to skip the traffic jams from people who choose to drive it on their own. We found the entire visit from the visitor center, the petting zoo, the shop and the tour to be very memorable and awesome. I will say that the ONLY trouble we ran into was that we bought our tickets online and was not aware that you do not start the tour at the beginning, you have to drive past the first gate a 1/2 a mile or so to get to another turn in which feels like you are driving into a neighborhood at first so be aware of that and do your research before running into the same problem we did.

Park on the Paluxy River.
Don’t miss this stop! What a great place to stretch your legs, wade in the river, climb on very cool round rock formations. There is plenty of parking. The park is surprisingly clean / well kept, and the rack of courtesy life jackets is a fantastic idea! They do allow dogs on leashes; they do not allow alcohol.

Located in a pink metal building, this museum poses evidence to the evolution theory.
A dream for the young earth creationist. Had lots of great evidences and an incredible hyper baric chamber that illustrated life before the flood. Very Evangelical and evangelistic. Being a college educator i get bombarded by the other side ( I call the dark side). Nice to see evidence that supports a literal interpretation of Genesis.

I was surprised how nice this place was! It was right across the street from our campground Dinosaur Valley RV Park. There is a long shaded path with dinosaur replicas and info about each one. If you have kids interested in dinosaurs, you have to come here! We also enjoyed feeding the fish. We would definitely recommend coming here! Good price too!

The town square is worth a visit. We found a nice restaurant (Story Book Cafe), soda shop (Shoo-Fly), and a nice museum with a very friendly and knowledgeable owner/docent.

A recommended side trip when staying in Hico, Texas for canoeing.
My family and I stayed at the Tres Rios Park in one of the cabins. We LOVED it! The cabin was cleaned and well furnished. The grounds were very well maintained. The park offered a quiet, safe, and relaxing environment for my family and I to enjoy. The Squaw Creek River flowed just below our cabin, the Paluxy to our right, and the Brazos River in front of us. We were able to watch the sunrise over the Brazos in the mornings. The staff was friendly and accommodating as well. We really enjoyed our time there. There was a ton of family friendly things to do in the Glen Rose area. We visited the Dinosaur Valley Park as well as Big Rocks Park. Lots of hiking, fishing and kayaking opportunities for the outdoors type family. We highly recommend visiting Tres Rios Park.
