September 12, 2021 Tambra Mccollister

Trinidad (Chetco-Tolowa: tvm-sray-me’; Karuk: áas uyâahitihirak; Yurok: Chuerew; Wiyot: Da'guchwayawik, "land is curved") is a seaside city in Humboldt County, located on the Pacific Ocean 8 miles (13 km) north of the Arcata-Eureka Airport and 15 miles (24 km) north of the college town of Arcata. Situated at an elevation of 174 feet (53 m) above its own North Coast harbor, Trinidad is one of California's smallest incorporated cities by population (367 residents in 2010, up from 311 residents in 2000). Trinidad is noted for its spectacular coastline with ten public beaches and offshore rocks, part of the California Coastal National Monument, of which Trinidad is a Gateway City. Fishing operations related to Trinidad Harbor are vital to both local tourism and commercial fishery interests in the region.

Moonstone Crossing Winery Tasting Room

Lovely Sharon was such a warm and gracious hostess! As she introduced us to Moonstone's fabulous wines she also told us about their varietals and blends, and how they came to be named. We loved: Nero D’avola, Midnight Caress, Old Vine Zinfandel, Obsidian, and Souzao Port. The tasting room was so welcoming because of Sharon's hospitability and it was also beautifully decorated with local artists' creations and photography.

You can’t find a better hike than the rim trail through the Redwoods and mostly in the shade with amazing vistas of turbulent ocean and crashing waves appearing from time to time. Make sure you visit Wedding Rock and climb the stairs to the rock outpost overlooking the northern Californian coast! $7 for one vehicle and two people! Great value!

This Park is located just south of the Kuchel Visitor Center in Orick. I loved taking the road off the highway to access the lagoons and ocean in various areas. There is an information center, lots of parking and and beautiful water views. There’s so much to explore when you take your time. I found beautiful wildflowers in the area.

Moonstone Beach

Reviewed By ngremmy - Yuba City, United States

This beach is very clean and dog friendly! We enjoyed the calm and shallow shoreline with our kiddo and family. There are a few small caves on the north end of the beach along with some really neat sandstone/conglomerate rock faces. If you are looking for shells or rocks, this is not the place to look. If you are looking for a small quiet beach that is relatively safe for young ones to get their feet wet at, this is a great choice!

Trinidad State Beach

Reviewed By auntbeck22 - Huntington Beach, United States

We stopped there early in the day when it was still a bit foggy. As the fog lifted there were many beautiful rock formations out in the water. I thought we would stay on the beach but ended up taking a hike up the nearby hill. It ended up being one of my favorite hikes on our vacation. There are many breaks in the path for lookout and picture opportunities. They have carved out tiny paths between the plants that our kids crawled through. When you get to the top it extremely windy, hold onto your hat! Overall fun for the family and not too strenuous.

Big Lagoon County Park

Reviewed By AnastasiaYeager - Weed, United States

This place is popular and good luck finding a camping spot. After going around park twice and seeing no space available by noon, I noticed a rain fly com off a tent and stopped to ask if people are leaving and they said YES. It became a wonderful five day stay. Watching the meteor at night, the sunset on the ocean, hunting for gems and just playing and enjoying ourselves with family. Dude is a wonderful host.

We tried out the new, improved steps on trail to this lovely hidden beach, and it was amazingly easy! Steep, yes, but much broader steps, lower rises, and well-sculpted with gravel and wood. The beach is gorgeous!
