Built in 1788, The Georgian Theatre Royal is the UK's oldest working theatre in its original form. We are currently still open for tours, although all live performances have been put on hold for the moment. Guided 'back-stage tours are suitable for children and adults alike and run every hour on the hour (10am until 4pm Monday to Saturday). Our enthusiastic guides will entertain you with the fascinating story of the Theatre as well as providing a colourful insight into life in Georgian England. Find out who has graced the historic stage over the centuries and discover how the early actors lived and worked, walking miles between venues with their families in tow. Come and see why we're consistently number 1 of 'things to do in Richmond' on TripAdvisor!
We visited for a tour of the theatre with our 2 little boys aged 5 &6 having always fancied exploring this historic little gem of a theatre. We were the only ones on our tour and the guide Shiela was absolutely fantastic. She made sure she kept our boys interest with interesting facts and was so patient with answering all of their questions and letting them perform on the stage! She really is a credit to you and made the whole experience one to remember for all of us - please pass on our thanks to her. We loved the theatre so much, we have booked to come and see Aladdin in December - the boys can't wait because they know how it all works now!!

Visited here why looking round Richmond Town. As English Heritage members got in for free. It is a great castle, you can climb right to the top and get fantastic views of the town and surrounding countryside. Knowledgable staff and good gift shop as well, definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

You could spend days in here just looking at their wonderful things. Firstly their food section has quality meats and cheeses many of which are local. They have loads of nice chutneys, jams, oils, beers, sweet things etc. They have recently expanded their shop to include more gifts and wow they are wonderful. They have a sweet gift section which biscuits and chocolates galore and upstairs is more xmas decorations and gifts. The staff were great giving us a frozen goose and packing it in a box with ice for our journey home!

The garden at Millgate House is now closed. It is open for bed and breakfast resident guests and friends only.
If there is an antidote to lockdown blues I cannot think of anywhere on planet Earth that provides this more than Millgate. Is it the outrageous beauty and exquisite taste that is on view on the walls ,recently enhanced by the arrival of a stunning collection of Grand master paintings that sit so comfortably with liked minded companions that live in the rest of this house? Is it the all year round award winning garden that seems oblivious to all the attention and just exudes joy at the most elemental level, a cacophony of plants of every kind, from humble commoners and "blow ins" to regency and aristocratic rare blooms that are only known to RSH devotees, the garden being winner of several prestigious awards over the years. (The magnificent walled garden is an R.H.S Partnership garden - winning first prize (out of 3500 gardens) Despite all of this well deserved reverence of breathtaking beauty Millgate, like its owners Tim and Austin, is utterly un pretentious and totally accessible. Together, they are the Grand Masters of knowledge and knowing what works and the combo is the lived experience, and creates an ambience that it transcendent and can only be experienced by being there. It was an utter joy to visit just before the second lockdown was being announced. As lockdown lifts the magnificent Millgate will open its doors once more, but places are even more coveted so get in early, we never leave without the next visit booked.

The Shoulder of Mutton is a traditional Country Pub which has been recently fully refurbished, we are set in the village of Middleton Tyas at the Scotch Corner junction off the A1, we are an ideal stop off point for both journeys north and south 1 minute from the junction, we are also ideally placed if you are staying at the Scotch Corner Hotel or Travelodge at Scotch Corner or Skeeby In 2010 we were voted 6th best restaurant in the Darlington & Stockton Times. We pride ourselves on our friendly welcome and service and our excellent food, all our food is made on the premises, we try and use local produce where we can, our meat comes locally and our steaks are all local and are 28 day matured, Seafood comes from local fishmongers and is fresh daily. We have a well-stocked bar with a selection of real ales, great wines. We have a private dining room seating a maximum of 20 people which is ideal for private gatherings and family meetings.
On a miserable day we decided to stop here for lunch. The spotlessly clean pub had well spaced out tables and a varied menu as well as a specials board which caught our attention. We both had the pork chops in cider gravy with blackpudding bonbons. superb mashed potatoes and vegetables. we both cleaned our plates but my husband managed a dessert. The choices were extensive, he chose sticky toffee pudding which was excellent. Next time I`ll maybe have a starter and a pudding! I ve promised to bring the family.....

These gardens are on the main road just a few minutes walk from the market place. The flower beds are beautiful at the moment and the garden is very well kept.

From 13 April, The Station, including the gallery and shop, will reopen to the public. The Station and The Station Cafe | Bar - including a new takeaway menu and outdoor seating area - will be open 6 days a week (closed Mondays) 10am - 4pm. The toilets will also be open to customers. It is hoped that The Station Cinema will be able to open in May.
On a staycation in York, but having days out, one of which included a day trip to Richmond. As we drove into Richmond, we saw the impressive and sympathetically restored 'The Station' building, sitting near the banks of the River Swale. We parked up, went for a lovely long walk along the river and viewed lots of new born lambs. On our return we called into The Station for a look around at the art works on display. We enjoyed a great value and great tasting cup of filter coffee, freshly baked and tasty lemon drizzle cake and carrot cake. Excellent friendly customer service in the cafe, with staff unobtrusively buzzing around clearing tables and cleaning them. There was an amazing Alice in Wonderland knitted display all along the banister rails. We sat there trying to identify the individual characters. The site offers cinema, paintings, a small brewery and assorted additional shops and there is a swimming pool nearby too. This attraction could well keep children and adults occupied all day. Totally recommended.

Lovely big old pub with access to close car parking. The staff are friendly & welcoming and very efficient.Covid restrictions are in place so we felt very safe. The premises are comfortable and though the menu isn’t huge there’s something for every one and it’s changed regularly. The menu is complimented by a good choice at the bar.We found the food here to be the nicest we had whilst in Richmond,in fact can honestly say I was served the best chips I have every had.The icing on the cake for us is the pub is very dog friendly.Great place to eat and drink.
