We have done this walk from campsite Buttelwoog. The tour is well marked with signs. It is not a difficult track, but the views are amazing!

Don't expect lots to do here but there is a movie room, a small exhibition, lots of information on the fortress and it's inhabitants (and prisoners such as Richard the Lionheart) and a picnic area. The view, however, is absolutely breathtaking and well worth the hike! There's (paid) parking just a few minutes (as in: short but steep climb) away from the entrance but I suggest parking a bit further out and hiking to the fortress as the forest is tranquil and beautiful! In any case, Ladies, I recommend sneakers, no matter which option you pick. You can buy snacks and souvenirs at the paid parking area but I suggest packing a picnic and making use of the fortress's picnic tables.

Fitz-Ritter is a renowned Palatinate (Pfalz) wine estate that has been in the Fitz family for nine generations, since its founding over 230 years ago. One of Germany ’s oldest sparkling wine (Sekt) productions is also part of this family operation. Visit our tasting rooms or take a walk through our "Oenosphère" the century old cellars where our wines develop.
Fitz-Ritter was the first winery we visited while in Bad Durkheim and it was a lovely experience! The hosts were very welcoming and explained the background behind their wines and sekt. We were able to taste many different wines and went home with bottles of the Riesling Halbtrocken and the Flaggerturn Riesling: our two favorites!
