Guangdong (Chinese: 广东) is a province in South China, located on the South China Sea coast. We stopped by after hearing about this area of town from plenty of other folks. We took a cab over from our hotel- roughly 15 minutes - and walked around for about 2 hours. Even at 9 am in the summer, it’s hot! We went through plenty of water and even found a 7-11 where we got a slurpee! I hadn’t had one is about 20 years, but that cools to the core! The white swan hotel, the fingerprinting guy at Helen’s place and the fabled friendship garden statues were all on the agenda and made for a good morning. We got plenty of souvenirs at Michael’s place and worked up an appetite sweating the rest of the morning! Takeaways - the maps here are not helpful and things can be hard to find. If you can map things out s bit beforehand, it’s worth it...or just get on WiFi. A great half day excursion that can go, basically as long as you want it to! Worth checking out for sure!

An interesting place showcasing the history of the greater region before it became a part of China proper. Museum has many artefacts and is well-presented. The mausoleum on the grounds is simpler, but nonetheless, a good visit paired with the museum.

First time for me to visit any zoos in China and it impressed me big time! This is a great way to visit the zoo- in AC and at your whole pace. You don’t have to be in the sun and walk 10K steps to see different animal! I personally much prefer this than any other zoo, by the way it’s a well managed zoo too!

We enjoyed this show very much. Do arrive early as it's free seating for the cheapest sector tickets. We took the free shuttle bus from the metro station to the circus venue. The pre show entertainment starts at 7 pm. A very enjoyable show not to be missed. Bought our tickets thru klook with easy redemption at the admission tkt counters.

Considering I just came from Shanghai Disneyland, this theme park is bliss. Fast rides requires a minimum height of 1.4m, and thus there are no children in many queues. Queue time was on average 5-20 minutes tops, skip the express pass. If you are a family with small kids, there are numerous interesting kid rides and all age appropriate shows (magic/action/etc) throughout the day. Food carts options are limited and bland, but not too pricey. There are more than 3 high speed coasters, and a lot of 360 spin rides. Particularly enjoyed the spinning U-track ride and spinning frisbee ride. If you are a coaster enthusiast, the rides will be meh at best. But not having to queue hours however, means you can spam your favourite rides. Consider getting the Theme Park + Circus combo at 530/640 ish yuan, depending on non-peak/peak days. Circus is amazing. You can spend around 5 hours in the park and clear most rides/ shows. I came at 1 and managed to watch all shows and all major rides just in time. The park closes at 6pm, so plan your time well. Above average rides and below average queuing times makes this a better than average theme park. Also, there are many cute girls in the park, just putting it out there.

This is one of the four most famous gardens in Guangdong. I found everything I could expect from a traditional Chinese garden here. I think it was the early autumn when I visited, and most plants were green. It is not hard to imagine how beautiful the garden will be when most of the flowers bloom in Spring or Summer. I visited on a weekday, so there were some people, not a big crowd. It is relaxing and peaceful. Besides, there are huge kois in the pond, and I guess there are kois all along, so there is a Hui Su (灰塑) of kois on the wall. Vivid and catching. I know Chinese and had mobile data available, so I followed the garden's WeChat account and got some sort of “guided tour” or some more introduction about the architectures and so on. Entrance fee is RMB15. If you are 65 years old or above, you pay RMB7 only (remember to bring some document).

Beautiful flower gardens, cactus gardens, shade plants, a Buddhist temple. Initially we saw a monument on a high hill and thought that was the temple and decided to climb to it. After about a half hour of climbing in Shenzhen weather, we came to a direction post and decided to go to the lower down places instead. So although we saw the fairy lake, the water plant nursery, the shade plants, cacti, and lots of beautiful flower areas, we missed the paleontology garden and some other cool places. As it was, we left so late that two cab drivers didn't want to take the 34 minute ride to our hotel because they wanted to quit work at 4.

It is a very beautiful opera house, both inside and out. But when will they have Beijing opera and Sichuan/Chengdu quick mask changing performances? Guangzhou has the facilities, but not the shows. For a great selection of shows, Beijing is by far the leader. Come on Guangzhou, let’s gets more Chinese content.
