Restoration Vineyards

We visited with two couples, mid thirties, at the conclusion of our day of winery hopping. We saved the best for last! The owner greeted us with a huge smile and genuine happiness. We ordered a bottle of wine and a charcuterie plate and enjoyed, by far, the best view from any vineyard in Palisade. Was the wine flight the cheapest here? No. Did the fantastic atmosphere and genuine hospitality make it for that? 100x over. When we go back, this will be our first and last stop in Palisade/Grand Junction! Ask the owner about the classic Mercedes about the property. A fantastic collection!

Talon Winery

Talon Winery is known for classic style, fruit-forward wines made from the finest grapes available. Our methods preserve and enhance the flavors that develop naturally in grapes grown in Western Colorado’s high desert arid climate and mineral-rich soils. Taste our wingspan trio, our flagship Red, White, and Rosé blends; then move across the hall to taste the delectable fruit wines of sister winery St. Kathryn Cellars, with which we share a building.

Came here so she could pick up a cherry mead that they bottle. Which unfortunately they are out of. After a short tasting session we some how walked out with a box full of bottles. A quick trip to a near by liquor store solved the problem of the missing cherry mead. But the place is interesting and there is a sizable collection of wines they make. At present I think this is going to be recurring road trip to restock.

Varaison Vineyards and Winery

Reviewed By meganfU1429NQ

I have been to a lot of wine tastings over the years and this is without a doubt the most informative and all-around fun experience I’ve had yet. My group was set up with Varaison’s very own winemaker Alex, a ridiculously talented and charming expert on all things vino. His background in bio-chemistry and experiences with winemaking in France meant he was knowledgeable in every aspect of wines, from production and formulation to proper technique. In the first 10 minutes of our free wine tasting (oh yes, Varaison offers their tastings free of charge) I learned about how the way you drink your wine can influence the taste, depending on what part of your tongue it hits, plus a foolproof way to make sure you always buy a wine you’ll like. I found out I’ve basically been drinking wine the wrong way for the last 15 years and immediately saw the difference in tastes after those first few minutes with him. Not to mention all the wine tasting mythbusting he did while we drank. After our tasting, I finally felt like I understood how to best experience wine and not feel intimidated or confused. The wines themselves are spectacular and so unique. Highly recommend the “porch-pounder” rosé Joyeux, as well as a lightweight summer red and a beautiful Chardonnay that was anything but basic. I couldn’t decide which ones to get and settled on 5 different ones. The vineyard is completely direct to consumer, so you won’t find them at your local wine shop. Highly recommend both a visit and a stock up when you are in town.

Sage Creations Organic Farm

My dad and son and I visited this farm last June. There are tours but we were not able to get in on one because they had another group fill it up. To be honest, we did hang around a little behind the group to try to glean what we could but we mostly checked out the grounds on our own. There is a very cute gift shop and some samples of jelly and honey and such. They even have a freezer so can sell popsicles. You can get a picturesque little walk in.

St Kathryn Cellars

At St. Kathryn Cellars, flavors come alive to intrigue the imagination and delight the palate. Our sweeter-edged, highly flavorful wines can be enjoyed chilled, on-ice, anytime and for any occasion. We make wines to inspire and delight! Our winemakers craft jewel-like bottles with a variety of fruits and botanicals. Our wines are unique, flavorful and authentically crafted to taste just like the fruit of origin. While it may cost us more, we choose to ferment the actual juice of the fruit. Perhaps our most unique wine, and by far our most popular, is our Lavender wine. It is made with 100% Colorado Riesling and infused with locally, organically grown lavender. Visably lavender in appearance, it has a pronounced floral aroma and a crisp, well-balanced taste. Not too dry, and not too sweet–just perfect for any drinking occasion!

My friend and I visited St. Kathryn's during COVID and so had the added experience of sampling from Meadery of the Rockies at the same time due to location consolidation efforts during the pandemic. Our hostess, Ann, was absolutely wonderful and provided us with a delightful experience. She was very knowledgeable and gave us some great recommendations, and made us feel like we were spending time with another friend rather than a hostess during the tasting. The variety of flavors was expansive and pricing was great, including deals if you bought a certain number of bottles. We very much appreciated the experience and would highly recommend this location for tastings, we plan on returning at our next visit!

Colterris Wines

The name COLTERRIS was derived by combining a three letter abbreviation of Colorado “Col” with the Latin word “terris” meaning from the land. “COLTERRIS – from the Colorado land”. All COLTERRIS Wines are produced from 100% Colorado grapes grown in our estate vineyards in the Grand Valley AVA. Our two COLTERRIS tasting rooms are located in Palisade on Colorado's beautiful and picturesque Western Slope. The Grand Valley AVA produces world class wine grapes high in quality and distinction. The favorable eco-climate of Theresa's Vineyard, volcanic soils of the Grand Mesa and the waters of the mighty Colorado River contribute to the rich color, intense fruit flavors and characteristics that make Colterris wines unique. Visit our COLTERRIS Winery tasting room year-round and COLTERRIS at the Overlook tasting room seasonally, June through October. We offer wine tasting, tours, fresh seasonal produce, picnic items and spectacular views at both locations!

What a fun day!!! My husband and I stopped here on our road trip back home. Colterris Winery is wonderful. We got a reservation for the wine tour and tasting with Lance who was super informative and Justin, one of the key wine makers. With it being the largest winery in Colorado we got to try so many different and unusual wines; white Cabernet Sauvignon, Coloradeaux, Malbec rose, etc. Definitely add the charcuterie board and enjoy your tastes either in the “library” (wine cellar) or the patio if it’s warm enough. Don’t forget to tip your tour guide!!! And buy some wine and swag on your way out. We all gotta keep small business open!
