This is must do hike, about 4 hours relax drive from Long Island including a pit stop, it’s a 7 mile hike ( you have the option to do a 3.5 hike) with 21 waterfalls. It’s breathing taking, being in a forest intrigued by waterfalls of varying size. It’s such a reprieve from the hustle and bustle of life......it was an idyllic hike. I WILL do it again????????

Jacks Mountain

Reviewed By TravelinRangerChick - Bellefonte, United States

My friend and I are fairly active, but not super in shape and we made it up the stairs in 30 minutes with breathing breaks. We got sweaty and red, it wasn’t easy, but it was a lot quicker than we thought. Technically there are more like 1,100 steps - I feel that’s important haha. You park on the side of the highway and just start straight up the hill, after the informational sign - you see step #1. The steps were large and secure, that was nice. When you get to the top, there is a cool stone building to your left and another short hike up to a gorgeous view of Juniata River and the train around town. If you go to the right from the top, there is an expansive view from a shorter flatter walk. Walking down almost took longer because we were afraid to trip and fall. We went slow and our knees were trembling haha. There were a fair amount people, so you have to step to the side to let them up. There were 2 crazy people that ran up and ran down it, they were probably there from start to finish only 20 minutes. But we looked around and enjoyed it - all together 2 hours. The next day my calves were sore, that’s it. Totally doable, just take breaks.

Bury The Hatchet Bensalem - Axe Throwing

*Hours subject to change* Competitive axe throwing is a well known Canadian past time that's becoming increasingly popular in the United States. Simply put, it's like playing a game of darts, except with axes! At Bury The Hatchet you'll experience the thrill of launching an axe at a wooden target in a safe and fun environment. You and your best mates will spend two hours becoming intimate with a 1.5lb piece of whirling wood and metal as you learn, practice, and then finally square off toe-to-toe in a group tournament.

This was my first visit and it was really great. Staff from check in was super friendly, our axe master was patient, encouraging, and really helped make it a lot of fun. The facility was also just nice with picnic tables and refrigerators to store your beer. I would do this again in a heartbeat.

Kinzua Bridge State Park

The 339-acre Kinzua Bridge State Park, is the home of the reinvented Kinzua Viaduct. The Viaduct, once the longest and tallest railroad structure at 2,053 feet long and 301 feet high, was partially destroyed by a tornado in 2003. Reinvented as a pedestrian walkway during 2011, visitors can stroll 624 feet out on the remaining support towers, peer miles out into the Kinzua Gorge, and gaze down through the partial glass platform at the end of the walkway. The Kinzua Bridge State Park Visitor Center and Park Office features great views, self-guiding exhibits, and information about the surrounding area.

Hawk Mountain Sanctuary

Reviewed By Baltobabs - North East, United States

We hiked at this park a few days ago. I was looking for a harder hike, and usually when a review says the hike is hard, we go and it is not very hard. This was hard! We did the skyline trail, cut over and and did part of golden eagle trail and river of rocks to finish out(including the little end loop). that was 5.5 miles sand took 5 hours. We weren't going too slow and no one passed us, but we stopped at several overlooks. The little end loop on river of rocks that is 1 mile wasn't as nice, and we would skip it if we did it gain. The whole trail, and I mean the WHOLE trail is rocks, and big rocks. The entrance to skyline trail by the lookout literally looks like it goes straight over the edge of the mountain, and it sort of does! Wear good shoes, the rocks are sharp and you will be hopping from one to another most of the time, and will rarely be on actual soil. Breaking an ankle would be very easy on most of the trail. All this being said we had so much fun, there are several fantastic views along the way, everyone was friendly. We were there on a Tuesday, and the parking lot was about 2/3 full so I can imagine on the weekend it is packed. Buying tickets on line was easy, just hand them to the lady at the entrance, and then there is another person taking cash for the $10 fee a bit farther down. if you are interested in birds every lookout had a ranger spotting birds, though the season is almost done. We never wore a mask, but we never got too close to anyone except on the stairs, and the people who stayed at the overlooks spotting birds wore them more than the people hiking as they were closer to each other I guess. Hop down and see the awesome carvings on the amphitheater!! The restrooms were closed and there are only portapots, with hand sanitizer.

Laurel Caverns

Cave with 2.8 miles of underground passages: great for viewing weird rock formations.

Reviewed By Mchumel - Lakewood, United States

My wife and I are senior citizens who like a new adventure. We talked ourselves into taking the 2-hour "upper cave" tour on a rainy Monday afternoon. Our guide, Zach, prepared we newbies for what to expect and told us he would tailor the tour to our limitations (we were the only two on the tour.) Navigating the passageways and the climbing up and down was challenging at times and scary at times, but we always felt in good hands with Zach and intern Cicely. In addition to his obvious love of caving, he provided us with a lot of geological facts about caves, geological history, you name it. Zach is quite personable, a good story teller and a great source for a few geology basics. Somewhat surprised to read the negative comments about the well-designed lighting in the family tour portion of the cave. The lights were aesthetically pleasing to this occasional spelunker.
