Stayed at Allihies with my family in September. The trip via Healy Pass is an adventure all of its own. It is fabulous and the views are out of this world.

Ballyhoura Country is a walker's paradise offering spectacular walking in ancient and unspoilt landscapes. Whether your interests lie in short, easy walks or long distance walking, whether you prefer guided walks or to organise your walking independently; walkers of all abilities will be invigorated by the sheer beauty and tranquillity of the area. Walking through Ballyhoura Country offers plenty choice to walking enthusiasts, there are exciting nature walks, river bank walks, quiet country roads, the Ballyhoura Waymarked Way, rugged mountains, rich bogs, and mythical landscapes. For further information contact Ballyhoura Bears Walking Club.
A misty Sunday morning walk took me up the mountains of Ballyhoura. I would suggest to GPS Ballyhoura Car Park before setting out as this will bring you to the beginning of the walk. The walk itself can become steep at times taking you past a ringfort and up over many hills and mountains including Seefin Mountain and a good workout. It is an area with many rocks and shadows in the distance and carries an air of mystery about it. There is a presence of steeping back thousands of years while standing within this environment. I came in early January which led to lots of bog land, though there is always access through.

Dunmore East Adventure Centre is the best run adventure centre. They have a safety video for all to minimise the risk of injury. They have a fantastic team who make the experience so special for everyone. The wibbit is an hour long experience which is a group of inflatable on the water, including a climbing wall, jumping area and slide. It is really well supervised by the staff. They also have other outdoor activities such as kayaks, supertankers, windsurfing, sailing, and a climbing wall. They have indoor activities such as archery, caving and an indoor climbing wall. The changing rooms and shower areas are excellent, equipment is well maintained. Customers can bring their own wetsuits or avail of the centres wetsuits. Everyone is given a lifejacket for health & safety reasons. Remember to bring old running shoes or booties.... There is a well stocked shop and a fantastic cafe upstairs with delicious pizza's. First time driving a rally car like this and it surpassed all expectations and hopes. Super staff, very friendly and helpful throughout the day. Just a wonderful experience all round. Very informative talk given in the beginning, both the history and currently state of the sport explained in depth. If you have any interest in animals/ wildlife I would highly recommend! The flying experience is wonderful. The birds are all in amazing condition and so obviously well looked after. The bond that the birds have with the instructor is adorable and they totally love what they do. No bird is forced to fly; when they decided to stop cooperating - especially the owl! - everyone just moved on. Everything was just amazing. Such a wonderful experience, if you know anyone with a slight interest in what falconry is, it's a wonderful birthdsy gift! You need a car to get around, as the area is pretty secluded. Not that far from Arklow town so lots of places to stay nearby and more to do if you want to make a weekend out of it!

This area of Ireland is not to be missed. Very different from anything else we saw. If you start in Roundwood and take highway R759 you will go through some amazing countryside. Stop near Lough Tay and find the trailhead. (There are a few parking areas). You can take a spectacular hike on a beautifully maintained trail (much of which is raised boardwalk) and see amazing views in every direction. Then, drive towards Sally Gap. It's hauntingly beautiful and unique. So worthwhile. You can continue on to Dublin from there. Country roads (narrow) but typical of those in Ireland.

The Irish Military War Museum and family park, offers a fascinating insight into Irish participants' involvement in both World War One and World War Two, as well as other military conflicts in world history. The Irish Military War Museum, covering 5,000 square feet of floor space, will represent a distinctly non-political but 'must see' educational and historical resource for people of all ages and from right across the island of Ireland and beyond.
Wow!!Went here today and what an amazing experience. The museum is brilliant and a huge collection of memorabilia. Fergus who works there is very knowledgeable and spent alot of time with us showing us everything and telling us stories and facts. My son said this is the best museum he has been in,way better than the one in Dublin city and Bovington in the UK. He will be returning at some stage with his friends. Worth every cent. I would highly recommend a visit here.

What can we say?!? A truly magical experience. Willie is so informative and passionate about his birds. He talked us through the whole process and made sure each of us was comfortable and all of the access that we wanted to the birds that day. We held owls, flew a Harris Hawk outdoors, and learned a lot about their care. It was a once in a lifetime experience!

Bike Park Ireland is the first official mountain bike park in Ireland offering everyone from beginners to pro's the opportunity to have an action packed day out. With 8 downhill trails to choose from, a seriously cool uplift service, the largest pump track in the country, you will find it hard to contain your smile. We are a family run business and the bike park is entirely on private grounds and it's quite simply the best place in Ireland to come and have fun on a mountain bike. If you have all the gear and a bike, great, bring it - if you don't have anything, that's fine too because we have it all here for you to hire, just bring a pair of shoes with grips and we will take care of the rest. We cannot over emphasise the fact that anyone that can ride a bike will have loads of fun here. We have a large fleet of superb Kona bikes for hire, including helmets and pads, a class cafe called The Mucky Boot Cafe which serves homemade hot food all day. If your not into biking that's fine too as we have a lovely walk to the top of the trails where you can see as many as 8 county's. Our bike park is very family friendly and kids of all ages will spend hours playing around on bikes and lets face it there's a kid in all of us and we all just want to play on bikes every now and then!!!
