Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life is a treasure trove of fascinating objects and quirky artefacts that weave incredible stories about the people who lived here. The museum has extensive permanent displays, and a lively events and exhibition programme. The museum is proud to be family friendly. It is located in the heart of Tiverton, right next to the Beck's Square short stay car park, the bus station and only a few minutes from the long stay car park. We recommend that you pre-book and ask that you adhere to 2m social distancing and wear a face covering when visiting the museum.
We visited Tiverton Museum recently - for the first time in about 30 yrs... What a marvellous place it is now - after its huge extension & refurb. What transformation! Fantastic displays of everything from ancient farm equipment to a giant net-making loom, from the Heathcoat factory. And, of course standing on the footplate of the Tivvy Bumper steam engine is a wonderful treat! (You can even press a button to hear steam noises - and pull the chain to hear that iconic whistle!) If you are visiting the area - or haven't visited the museum for a while - I am sure you will find the £5.50 entrance fee very good value - enjoy!!

Wall in the Hall is a Multi Purpose Activity Centre offering both Indoor and Outdoor climbing facilities as well as other activities. We are Mid Devon's only dedicated climbing facility and pride ourselves on having a friendly and local feel. Saturday and Sunday we offer drop in sessions for people of any age and experience something that is very unique to find in a climbing centre and we have constantly changing challenges for ages 4 till 400(our oldest regular climber is in her 80's.). We also run adult climbing sessions and workshops and ensure there are always problems that will stump you no matter what your level of fitness. A perfect day out or Work out, and always a friendly smile.

Megan facilitated the most wonderful mosaic making workshop in her Devon studio, with glorious views and relaxed atmosphere. The day was informative, fun and very enjoyable, meeting new people and sharing the most delicious vegetarian lunch in Megan's quirky kitchen! Megan encourages your creativity to flow and I was thrilled to go home with a new skill and piece of my own artwork. I would highly recommend booking one of Megan's workshops, you won't be disappointed.

In some ways, Tiverton Castle isn't a place you'd go out of your way to visit - and, as it's still privately occupied, there are only a couple of days a week when you can get in to the Grounds. More prohibitive seems to be the maximum of 3 hours that you can be there. So, it's naturally off-putting... ...but it's a little gem. The strength of the place is in the softly-spoken ex-lawyer who guides you round the 'open bits' for an incredible two hours dealing with the site in a historical order that places everything in its correct order - from pre-Norman occupations on and around the place through the civil wars and up to the present day. Ask him for some more information on a subject and he keeps coming up with more details. This was a real gem on our short holiday but be prepared to be standing or walking slowly around for somewhere approaching 2 hours. There are seats in some rooms and places to lean up against outside but others may need these but that would be the only down side. We had just 45 minutes after the tour to take in the Gardens which are colourful in themselves - the wife went there while I hunted down the present owner and chatted to him about the small war collection of Roundhead armour and weaponry that he has. He's very knowledgeable, too, and I got a lot from his responses and information. If you're in the area, this is not a place to miss.
