The National Institute for Zorig Chusum in Thimphu was created by the government to promote Bhutan's traditional contemporary art forms. I have read that the words "Zorig Chusum" literally means "Thirteen Crafts." The thirteen Bhutan art forms are: Traditional Painting, Sculpturing, Wood Carving, Calligraphy, Paper making, Bronze Casting, Embroidery, Weaving, Carpentry, Masonry, Bamboo and cane weaving, Gold/Silver Smithy, Black smithy. The Institute has various classrooms with instructors who teach students these 13 art forms. After the students are taught these various art forms, they are then tested to determine their knowledge of these art forms. When our small group tour was visiting the Institute, there were several classrooms that were "Closed for Testing" with a sign on the door(s) indicating that testing was in progress. The items or goods that are made in the classrooms are being sold at the Institute's gift shop or "Showroom", and at various gift shops throughout Thimphu city. In summary, the National Institute for Zorig Chusum was quite interesting - knowing that Bhutan's government is genuinely interested in keeping Bhutan's rich history in it's 13 art forms.

We read lot of good review of place off course on TripAdvisor and hence decided to visit. We were staying at Pedling hotel which made us reach here very easily. Walkable from all hotels in center of Thimphu city (hotels in and around Clock tower). We reached at 9 and hence got preferred good seat easily. Advantage Good value for money alcohol. Free starter with alcohol (we didn't take as it's fried but it seemed decent). Local alcohol available. Seating good Ambience and interior small cozy and attractive inside. Outside ambience good too but only advised if it's not chilly. The music is played by some very best singers inside. The singers sing popular English songs ( no accent ). Staff is good. Disadvantage None. Do Please go early as it gets crowded and then getting comfort seat inside where you could see and hear great music is bit difficult. Please do not relay for proper dinner (they are giving only starters). Have dinner and then go here so you enjoy what's it's famous for.

Expect no less than a world class massage at this simple and clean massage place. Tshering, a visually impaired massage master who trained with the best at Amankora, truly delivers. I ended up visiting three times and I was never disappointed. I highly recommend it.

Discover the beauty and diversity of the living textile arts of Bhutan. We have the finest examples of woven, embroidered and appliqued textiles on display alongside relevant production techniques in our Textile Museum. Visitors can also observe weavers and embroiderers at work at our Weaving Center on the premises of the Royal Textile Academy. Opening times: Monday – Saturday 9:00 – 17:00
The museum houses lots of traditional Bhutanese gho and kiras as well as laya etc which are the traditional dress of Bhutan with variation depending on the area they originate . A lot of material has been contributed by the royal family . There are some nice educational videos about the origin of the dress and it’s use etc . I enjoyed this visit . As opposed to the museum shop I would recommend buying a dress if desired in paro . Lots of options there .
