Welcome to Skien Sports and Activity Park. We offer a multitude of opportunities all in one place – all year round you can experience summer and winter, combine training sessions with wellness, experience a sense of achievement and enjoy good food with friends. Do you love water? If so, there is plenty for you to look forward to when visiting us. Here you can take the plunge, climb, swim, dive and slide. And if you need a break, you can enjoy one of our comfortable sunbeds together with something tasty and refreshing from the café!
We visited the park and had a good time with all the different activities: water slide with racing timer, wave pool, heated pools, hot tub, diving boards, climbing wall, obstacle course in the water, saunas and more. It wasn’t crowded, but there was a little waiting to use the hot tub due to Corona restrictions. They have a great cafe with a large selection of hot and cold food, snacks and drinks. At the entrance, there is a shop with a large selection of swimwear and pool toys. The wardrobe has very many large changing rooms, storage lockers and a hair dryer on hand. All the facilities were clean and well-kept. A family can easily spend several entertaining hours at this water park.

To experience the rich cultural heritage and traditions of West Telemark, West Telemark MuseumEidsborg is an excellent place to start. The museum consists of a collection of more than 30 buildings, an open air museum with Norway’s oldest pagan wooden building from 1167, the famous Eidsborg stave church dated back to the 13th century and a new, modern museum building with several exhibitions. There are many blockhouse constructions among the buildings at the museum, a building technique still in use. The museum is situated by R45 next to Eidsborg stave church in the beautiful and dramatic landscape of Tokke. In the modern museum building, opened in 2012, there are magnificent exhibitions telling the history of the folk art and culture of Western Telemark. There are collections of beautiful pieces of traditional art on display like rosepainting, woodwork, knives, silver and textiles.

The childrens favorite place to visit, lots of activities. DuVerden Maritime Museum + Science Centre is a vibrant venue with activities for young and old. The centre has created a link between the area's rich maritime history and future-oriented education as well as industrial development. The spectacular building houses exhibitions and installations. The objective is to stimulate interest in maritime history, science and technology through interactive communication methods - especially for children and young people. Consequently, learning through playing and experimenting is essential when visiting DuVerden. The centre has its own amphitheatre, which seats fifty people, and is used for 3D films. The weather turntable illustrates weather in a new way. Spin it as hard as you can, and a fan will produce a storm strength wind. We also have a big toy for the big boys: Our ship bridge simulator lets you control a ship and you can navigate up the river to Skien or out on to the fiord. Welcome to a great experience!

This small stave church is located close to West Telemark Museum, location Eidsborg. Take a guided journey through 800 years of history, and hear about the stave church and the changes in beliefs and conventions over this period. The church was dedicated to St. Nicolaus (locally called Nikuls), and a statue of this saint was very central in a local culture that remained well into the 1700s. The Eidsborg Stave Church is believed to be built between 1250 and 1270 and is one of the best preserved examples of 28 protected stave churches in Norway. This is quite a contrast to the Middle Ages when there were more than 1000 stave churches in the country. This unique building form is seen as Norway’s contribution to world architecture. In the summer months (June, July and August) there are guided tours to the church several times every day. Out of season the museum can organize guided tours by pre-booking.
This was the most beautiful church we saw while in Norway. We were passing by this to go to our destination. It was night time but it was well lit. I was very happy that we stopped to see it.

We had a semi guided tour and I found it all very interesting. I wouldn't make a special visit for it but good to see if you are in the area. It is a bit of a mission to get there as it is way up on a hill. There is lots of history. If you cant make it here, just watch the movie "The Heroes of the Telemark" they say it is historically accurate.
