The city planners in Staunton, Virginia, were very careful to preserve the town's heritage, keeping power lines and cell towers out of view in the historic districts, allowing nothing to interrupt the charm of local restaurants and shops operating out of original Victorian storefronts. Staunton is also the home to the Frontier Culture Museum, The Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library and the American Shakespeare Center, staging plays at the world's only replica of the Blackfriars Playhouse.

The Blackfriars Playhouse is the world's only re-creation of Shakespeare's indoor theatre. "Stunning", says Frommer's. Located in historic downtown Staunton, VA, this 300-seat Renaissance theatre offers productions of Shakespeare and classic plays year round that the Washington Post says are "shamelessly entertaining" and the Boston Globe says are "phenomenal...bursting with energy”.
We attended the closing night of Twelfth Night and it was just wonderful. My whole family was entertained. The cast performed impeccably and it felt so good to be in a theater again! The theater is very serious about health and safety during this pandemic. Masks, stringent social distancing between seats, hand sanitizing stations-- they didn't miss a beat. The venue is clean and airy, yet cozy, thanks to the wood paneling and warm lighting. Additionally, they unexpectedly upgraded our seats and that was such a treat (not a bad seat in the house, though, so no worries of not being able to see or hear no matter where you sit). I can't wait to go back!

Don't miss this classic church with stained glass by Tiffany. The current building is the third Trinity Church. The original building was the only place the Virginia Legislature ever met other than Richmond. Mr. Jefferson brought the Legislature to Staunton during the Revolutionary war. If you are in town on Sunday feel free to attend services and enjoy an impressive organ and Choir.

I've been going to Healing Touch Body Work in Staunton, Virginia for a couple of years. All therapists give amazing massage. I have suffered from fibromyalgia for 30 years. Natalie is from Russia and whatever she learned there and in Virginia, she gives deep tissue massage that is out of this world. She knows by feel where the problems are. She really knows what she's doing. If I feel like it's too intense, I let her know. I have never received anything less than an excellent massage from Natalie.

I loved the selection of unique items they had for sale. In addition to being a fun place to explore, the woman behind the counter was great! She explained the history of some of the items and went the extra mile to help me look for a gift!

This is a beautiful building on top of the hill. We came just in time when the mass ended we were inside the church all by ourselves. The stain glass is beautiful. It was very peaceful in there. It is a must visit in the area.

I stopped in here while my husband went into the brewery across the street. They have an huge assortment of flavored olive oil and various white and red balsamic vinegar. They also had small jars of spices made locally. The selection was not only great, so were the prices. I have been to some of these shops where you have to pay extra for the bottle (in exchange for a discount when you refill). Since we were only passing through the area, it was nice to pay only for the oil and vinegar. While I tasted only the ones that interested me, the staff there were more than willing to help me if needed.

What is an escape room? It's an interactive real life escape game in which you must solve the puzzles in order to escape the room. You have 60 minutes to find the clues, solve the puzzles and make your way to freedom. Are you up to the challenge?
We scheduled Crack the Code Escape Room as one of the team building activities for our recent work retreat. Of the group, only one of us had ever done an escape room before, so we didn't know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised. The rooms were interesting, challenging, and helped us build rapport, communication skills, and problem solving skills as a team. Beth and her employee were awesome. Just the right combination of professional, capable, and fun! Highly recommend for team building exercises. Everyone of us said we would go back with friends/family. It was a great start to the retreat!

Our visit to learn about Woodrow Wilson took us to Staunton VA. Both the birthplace and Presidential Library and Museum are near each other, but one or the other was closed due to Covid. We toured a fascinating facility and learned much about Woodrow Wilson and his presidency. Included information addressed the Suffragettes movement, WWI, his personal life and his presidency at Princeton University among other things. It was time well spent.
