Psychiatric centre which treated Van Gogh after he cut off his ear.
We happened upon this on our walk to Glanum from St Remy. They have done an excellent job of showcasing Van Gogh’s art along the walk and it was very interesting to see the place where Van Gogh spent a year of his life

First thing to say is this is free to artists. Otherwise only 5euros. Just remember your art society membership card. When I visited the receptionist spoke great english and had spent time in the Uk including my home town of Edinburgh. There were 4 different art exhibitions. Contemporary but all very different styles. Plus an informative display with audio and videos included about Van Gogh. St Remy is on a Van Gogh trail with the St Pauls Sanitarium only a 1 klm walk away where VanGogh stayed for treatment and produced many works. The art in the gallery was a joy and the Van Gogh centre informative but dont expect any original work of his. Look carefully for opening times as well as those of the sanitorium, prior to organising your visit. Recommended

Le REX, what is it exactly? A vintage building of Saint-Remy de Provence, it used to be a cabaret during the 19th century and later became a Movie theater after the Lumière brothers presented the first representation of the ‘Cinematographe’ : ‘train arriving La Ciotat rail station’ in february 1897. It’s remarquable architecture makes it a ‘must see’ place in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Many events take place in in The Rex, exhibitions, parties and festivals, as well as one man shows. The New Restaurant opens soon, so stay connected!
