The "Ludwigskirche" in Saarbruecken is a lutheran (protestant) church, built in 1775 by prince Ludwig of Nassau. It is one of the most important and prominent baroque churches in Germany, impressively situated amidst a place and surrounded by baroque city palaces. The church features a stunning white interior and a pulpit and organ in its centre. The church is open every Tuesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Groups are asked to arrange their visit through the congregational office.

The Historical Museum Saar is the museum on Saarland's history. A large part of the 2,700 m² exhibition area is located under Schlossplatz. The permanent exhibition traces the changing fortunes of the border region from Franco-German war of 1870/71 to the affiliation of Saarland to the Federal Republic of Germany in 1957. From 1935, the Gestapo had its headquarters in Saarbrucken’s palace. The exhibition on National Socialism includes an original Gestapo cell. Numerous inscriptions by imprisoned forced labourers have been preserved on the walls. A separate exhibition area is dedicated to the history of Saarbrucken’s castle and palace rock. The mysterious subterranean castle In the museum, visitors can descend fourteen meters below Schlossplatz into the mysterious subterranean castle – a unique sight in Germany that attracts tourists and especially families with children.
This activity can be a bit long but it was really interesting to learn about the History of the region. The place is definitely beautiful. If you plan to visit it, think about improving your language skills as the descriptions are in German and French!
