The watermill “Cavallo d’Ispica” is an original piece of jewellery of rural art of the 18th century, situated on the northern part of the archaeological valley of Cava d’Ispica, few kilometres from Modica, centre of hyblean baroque as well as hometown of poet Quasimodo and famous for its renowned chocolate.
We loved our visit to Mulino ad Acqua. Each unique space gives you a great insight into the history of the area and how people lived there. Seeing the mill in action and operated the latest in many generations of millers who have worked there is really fascinating.

We are a small family from the US (Oklahoma) and speak zero Italian. We thought we could visit Sicily and have the same ease of being able to speak English with the locals like we did in Italy. However, it has not been that easy. We were so fortunate to be referred to Giorgio by our hotel owner for a driver while we stayed in Modica. He speaks English and we were able to communicate with each other well. He is also very nice and he and his father have their own taxi service. We highly recommend them to use while in the area as they are well priced, flexible, accessible (we texted Giorgio frequently) and more than willing to help us with finding excellent villages to visit and restaurants to recommend and even reserve for us. We couldn’t be more pleased with Giorgio and his father Piero. (Piero doesn’t speak English but Giorgio would help us communicate if we needed to by texting back and forth.) All in all, if you are limited in your Italian and need an excellent and trustworthy driver, call Giorgio. He’s your guy!!! ????

The history of this museum revolves around the figure of FL Belgiorno (Modica, 1906-1971), who established it around the 1950s. The Museum is characterized by an archaeological section, with finds that can be dated between prehistory and the Middle Ages . Among the most relevant finds is the Eracle of Cafeo, a bronze statuette, dated to the end of the 3rd century BC, depicting the hero after his first labor. In the Museum there are also historical and historical-artistic collections, as well as the "Quasimodo Collection" and the works of the local artist Enzo Assenza
