Lonavala is one of the twin hill stations located near to each other, the other being Khandala. These hill stations are very popular getaway spots for people from Mumbai and Pune, which are very well-linked with Lonavala by road and rail. Monsoons are the best time to visit Lonavala/Khandala.

Korigad is a fort near Lonavla located at 929m above sea level. It is an easy trek to reach to the top, starts on a muddy road, takes you through a jungle of Karvy, and then the 740-stepped-stairway leads you straight to heaven. On the top, at first sight you are greeted with 2 beautiful lakes. Benches have been built on the strait between the lakes to just sit still and soak in the serenity. The fort walls and the main gate are still intact and well maintained, one can walk over the 2km wall! The view from the top is breathtaking to say the least. We visited on Monday September 30. Being a week day we had the fort to ourselves :) A 10th grader from the base village accompanied us as a guide. It was a welcome break from his studies, he said, to visit his favoritest place and also get paid for it. We got the perfect weather with intermittent cloudy and clear skies and myriad of colorful and scented wild flowers in full bloom. On our way back we drove through fog to return back to the Machan. Honestly I didn't want this day to end.

Great place for a one day outing family and friends. Also a great place for one night camping. Many agencies arrange a tent like stay in winters. It is easily reachable from Pune by private vehicle. Good road, highly crowded, popular place. Best place to visit is winter and early monsoon...however as the rains start it gets so crowded that it becomes a big headache driving here in a car. Driving bikes here is easier.

Its a must visit place in Lonavala. Its a 30-40 min trek from the bottom to the top. And the view is stunning from every corner. In rainy season a rain coat is a must because Umbrella won’t work because of the heavy wind. In summer carry water bottle with you and please don’t carry food because you might attract monkeys unknowingly.

Lonavala is a weekend destination for folks in Mumbai or Pune and while we included it in itenary, we also had a plan to visit the Narayani Dham Temple after reading some good reviews. This is enroute to Lonavala and not really that far from Pune. Went in with no real expectations just looking for some spiritual experience but it was mind-blowing. Again similar to Iskcon – gardens, fountains, huge temple complex, cow shed, lodge for visitors, kids play area and daily food options in this temple too. The main deities being Ganesha, Hanuman and Narayani Devi, each idol beautifully adorned and decorated. There are no restrictions on photography here and so spend some time experiencing both with your eye and your camera’s. One also gets to feed cows at the Gaushala or cow shed by buying a portion of fodder for ₹50 or grab a food coupon for a meal served at the temple complex for self. Though we did not try the food, we found out that the coupons get sold out pretty quickly and the meal is very delicious. There were a few shops selling pooja and decorative items wherein we grabbed a few things as well. A well maintained washroom and a parking area were the other facilities which were a plus.

This turned out to be the mind blowing place of our one day trip of 9th November 2019. Nature at its best. It is the one of the best place for Nature Lovers. How to reach from Pune: A) Distance: 87 km B) Route: Pune to Lonavla via old Pune Mumbai road C) Directions: Tip: It is on the Bhooshi dam or INS Shivaji route. After crossing Lonavala bus stand junction drive further till next junction at Kumar resort. Take left turn from this junction & proceed straight till you come across very 1st right T junction. Take right turn then the road is straight till Tiger Point passing Lonavala Lake, Bhooshi Dam & INS Shivaji. Distance from Kumar resort to Tiger point is 13 km. Tiger point is also called as Lion point. D) Free entry E) Parking Ample space Rs.20 for bikes Rs.50 for cars Rs.100 for bus E) Food Snacks: Plenty of food snacks center available F) On Tiger Point / Lion Point It is a mind blowing place offering breathtaking views of mountain valleys. It has fence near the mountain edge for safety purpose. One hour is more than enough to spend at this place plus Echo point 100 meter away. There are two gates for the Tiger point. Upstream gate or very first gate & downstream or second gate. From downstream gate, echo point is at 150 meter distance. Even though I mentioned one hour, one may feel to spend more time just watching the spectacular views at his place. G) Photos It is the most photogenic point hence each & every one will be busy in taking selfies or photographs. Do watch photos on tripadvisor plus in this review to know what you will see there. You should be lucky enough to have the clear sky to get the best photos. Unfortunately the sky was less clear during our visit. H) Best Time To Visit: Monsoon with clear sky Rainy season with clear sky June to January month I) Trip plan Following was our plan of one day trip: Gaatha Mandir at Dehu Shirdi Saibaba temple at Shirgaon Bhaja Cave Karla Cave Tiger Point Rajmachi Garden Sunset Point Nature lovers please visit this place immediately without any second thot.
