Paola Luisa Amico, master of art, since 1990 in his workshop in Via Guarrasi (at the very center of the medieval village of Erice) reinterprets the traditional style of decoration of Sicilian ceramics and local. At the same time developing a personal style and original research and exclusive.
Tucked away in one of the narrow cobbled streets of Erice is an artist at work, Her ceramics are so beautiful, so perfect in form and colour. We shall use our purchases with added joy having met Paola and seen her working on a fine piece. Well worth a visit.

Happy to try the famous place of Erice in gastronomy! Super tasty and super friendly! Genovese super and the liquor ones too... a small place on the local Corso. We opted for a takeaway as the place is small. Strolling with a dolce... mmm

Build in the local stone in C14th, the duomo looks quite plain from the outside but it is beautiful inside - it's situated very near to Porta Trapani. The lace-patterned ceiling is most unusual and quite stunning and there is a lovely rose window. You have to pay to enter but you can get a combined ticket that allows you entry to the next-door tower and several other churches which is good value.

Erice is just that kind of town. Nothing takes your breath away but everything exudes such elegance and charm, you just want to let it seep in. Chiesa Madre is another of such example. The exterior takes you back centuries and reminds you of a distant unadorned past. However, step inside and the intricate gothic lacework on the ceiling is a delight to the soul. it is well worth paying 6 euros to do the few key look outs and churches. just walking from one small church to another and counting the stones along the paved lanes is one simple joy in Erice. Watch out for the slippery stones.

We stopped in this shop only to buy only a small plate but once they told us that they ship to the US we began to look at their ceramic products from a more discerning point of view. We ended up purchasing a beautiful (and very unique) serving bowl and a matching platter for our daughter and her husband. The pottery is fully functional for food service and we were told is microwaveable. The pottery arrived promptly today; it was in excellent condition reflecting the fact that the items were quite carefully packed. For us this shop was a great find.

A very interesting and quite extensive hilltop village; my advice is not to take the main street with all the other tourists but to go left and wander up the deserted places where you can see how people still manage to live in this medieval site. There are plenty of restaurants and a lot of souvenir outlets; some of the latter sell quite attractive wooden items in amongst the usual tat. Being on a hilltop there are good views to be had inland and to the sea, especially from the church terrace. The Chiesa DI San Giuliano is on the main drag and cannot be missed. One of many churches in Erice so you will only have time to look in one or two, this was rather plain (but still complete and would have cost the poor villagers a bomb to build and maintain) by Sicilian standards.

Try not to miss it as it is not on the main street in Erice, Vittorio Emanuele, but on a parallel street, Via Fontana. Definitely worth it, so try to make time.
