Bolton (/ˈbɒltən/ ( listen) or locally [ˈbɜʏtn̩]) is a town in Greater Manchester in North West England. A former mill town, Bolton has been a production centre for textiles since Flemish weavers settled in the area in the 14th century, introducing a wool and cotton-weaving tradition. The urbanisation and development of the town largely coincided with the introduction of textile manufacture during the Industrial Revolution. Bolton was a 19th-century boomtown, and at its zenith in 1929 its 216 cotton mills and 26 bleaching and dyeing works made it one of the largest and most productive centres of cotton spinning in the world. The British cotton industry declined sharply after the First World War, and by the 1980s cotton manufacture had virtually ceased in Bolton.

Went here in the Summer on one of the open days. Absolutely fabulous if you like steam engines. Took our teens who were very interested in the workings. Loads to see and some super little model engines too. If you have youngsters- get the quis sheets which made it all very interesting as they had to find the answers in the museum. Staff were super - plenty of time to talk and explain. Loved it

We are a specialist beer shop and micro bar. We stock the best beers that the UK and world has to offer and strive to find the more unusual and types of beer. Customers can either buy bottled beers to take home or drink in our relaxed and friendly bar. We also serve a range of quality draught beers, both real ales and craft keg beers as well as wines, ciders and non alcoholic drinks.
We found this bar 18 months ago, what a gem. Daryl is a fountain of knowledge, when it comes to beer, All the staff are great. If you want a great selection of beer, good conversation with friendly locals, this is the place. Don't expect football, loud music, fast food. This is a little haven for lovers of quality beers, ciders, gins and wine. We cannot keep away. 10 out of 10.

I took a tour of Victoria Hall in the centre of Bolton, together with other U3A members from Preston. Although the entrance was not particularly striking, the building was huge inside. Our excellent guide, Barry, took us on a two hour guided tour, exploring the various rooms, including the church which was built in the style of a music hall, the projector room and the museum. We were particularly fascinated by the Victorian cloakroom. Barry gave us an interesting history of the building and kept us all enthralled with his amusing tales. Thoroughly recommended.

Established in 1948, Farnworth Little Theatre is an amateur theatre group situated just outside Bolton. Our first full length play 'Night Must Fall', was presented in 1949, and since then we have offered a continuous programme of up to five full length productions a year. We are totally self-supporting, financing the running and upkeep of the theatre through box office takings, membership fees, charitable donations and regular fund-raising events. The theatre is run by volunteers and therefore offers many opportunities for people of all ages to get involved in a range of activities, from acting to wardrobe, lighting and sound to publicity and set-building.
After living in the area and never visiting, we recently booked a couple of plays - Dick Barton - brilliant and funny and Albert Nobbs - very funny and very moving - the audience was in tears both ways. I wish we had visited much sooner. An intimate theatre with a bar, or tea and coffee and biscuits in the interval, very cute! The only thing I would say is take something warm to wear. Highly recommended for young and more mature visitors.

Northern Monkey Brew Co. is an established local microbrewery, with onsite tap bar in the town centre. We aim to produce and provide quality artisan craft ales in the very same room that they are served. Whilst also supporting and championing the best of other local brewers and distillers. A truly unique environment to enjoy fantastic drinks amongst friends.
Outstanding. Great range of beers, lovely stout, great cheese boards and fantastic staff. Really cool setting, too!

Recently saw 'Beryl' , staged by the Octagon in their temporary home at Bolton Library. It was absolutely awesome, everyone of the 4 cast worked very hard and it paid off. Probably one of the best productions I have ever seen, poignant, funny and the fact it was based on a true story made it all the better.
