An easy walk; some stairs (handy tip: take a water bottle) and then rewarded with spectacular views of the amazing sandblow. Kids: Take your boogie board if you want the thrill of riding down the sand dune. Great little adventure for families for an hour or two. Beautiful to watch the sunset if you’re timing is right (check sunset times)

The ultimate inflatable obstacle course on water that's fun for all ages! Perfect for groups large and small, birthday parties or just a fun way to get active and cool off in Mackay! We typically close over the winter months of June, July and August. Please always check our website for up to date session times.
If you are in Mackay and you enjoy water sports then Wakehouse is a must visit. Great facilities, staff that are passionate about wakeboarding and great coffee and food from the lakeside cafe. Also the aquapark is a great option to get the kids out on the water.

Popular for its long stretches of pristine beach and clear lagoons, this island features the highest dune in the world, reaching 280 meters above sea level.
Snorkel the ship wrecks, tobaggan the sand dunes, feed the dolphins at sunset, swim in the Blue Lagoon, drive along the beaches in your 4 wheel drive vehicle, go fishing.

Park that contains the remains of the longest flow of lava on earth, which has created a complex network of subterranean caves and passages.
Great place set up by a local family station holders. Sealed road all the way off the highway. Great camping, caravan park and glamping tents available. Lots of wild life, the Lava Tubes are well worth a visit. There is a gift shop, restaurant and bar. We dined at the restaurant and the meals were fantastic. Great view from restaurant with outdoor wood fire on cold nights. Lots of other activities also, campfire sing songs, walks and hikes.

Part of Queensland Wet Tropics World Heritage area.
The Daintree National Park is huge. Technically it spans both parts of the river which you have to cross by ferry in your car. Forget a tour company - do yourself a favor and see it on your own. The roads were easy to drive and on our day trip from Port Douglas we visited Cape Tribulation (beach and lookout for over an hour - at times the only ones on this pristine beach), we hiked one of the boardwalks and was a cassowary and her baby, we visited the famous ice cream place and had amazing tropical ice cream and walked around the property looking at the trees, and we visited the lookout for views. That was a full day. We would have needed more time to see/do more in Daintree. Maybe next time we'll consider spending the night. It's where 2 UNESCO world heritage sites meet and there's plenty to do here but I recommend do it yourself by car. I watched the way the small tours operate and I would have been miserable on their prescribed highlights. One of the tours didn't even let them people but 5 minutes on Cape Tribulation beach - what a pity for them!

Mon Repos Turtle Encounter is the only ranger-guided turtle encounter available on the east-coast and is instrumental in the research into turtle conservation, specifically the endangered Loggerhead turtles that frequent this beach. Take an unrivalled peak behind the curtain of a natural wonder thousands of years in the making at Mon Repos Conservation Park. Watch as mother turtles lay their clutches of eggs from November – January on a ranger-guided tour at the Mon Repos Turtle Encounter. In January – March form a pathway to the ocean for the baby turtles as they begin their dangerous journey into adolescence with only 1 in 1000 turtles making it to maturity. Come witness a miracle at the Mon Repos Turtle Encounter and create memories to last a lifetime.
This was an incredible experience. Had the honor & privilege of watching a female turtle make her nest, lay her eggs & then make her way back to the ocean.....was truely amazing!! Very professional tour & the guides only had the turtles best interest at heart. The new facilities are fabulous!

What a marvelous and memorable experience! Our holidays in Whitsundays have provided us with ultimate satisfactions, for which we visited Great Barrier Reefs, as well as Whitsunday Islands in one trip. With Great Barrier Reefs as 1 of the 7 Natrue Wonders in the world, and Whiteheaven Beach ranked among the top 10 beaches of our planet, holiday in Whitsundays is highly recommended by me. Regarding how to organize the trips, I wish I could offer some assistance: Transport --- A. Flight: There are airports in Proserpine, and Hamilton Island. B. Train: Spirit of Queensland running between Brisbane to Cairns along the Queensland coast, stop at Proserpine. C. Cars: Driving to Airlie Beach. Accommodation --- A. Airlie Beach: As the departure point of many Day tours, it is a pretty Seaside Resort Town with beaches, parkland and many shops. Great for families. B. Hamilton Island: Served with an Airport, a wildlife park, shops, and as the pickup point of Day tours, this beautiful island is most favorable among young adults. C. Daydream Island: With regular ferry services to both Hamilton Island and Airlie Beach, it is gaining popularity due to its heavenly beautiful settings. With a living coral pond and a Aquarium, Daydream Island is perfect for family with kids. D. Taking a multi-days tour on one of the tall ships for sensational exploring experiences. E. Hayman island, etc,: if it will not be your first trip to the region. Hope you could enjoy your holidays just like we have had.

North West Outback Safaris offered a 15-day tour from Cairns that was reasonably priced and well organised and resourced (guidance, transport, food and lodging). Departure began with an introduction to my traveling companions and Terry our guide/driver. The six of us were comfortable in our 4-wheel drive and we enjoyed getting to know each other. The first night, setting-up camp at a cattle station, we were given a sheet, pillow and towel and told to keep these. We were also given a tent, cot and mattress and instructed to turn these in when we break camp. I was pleased that all of this stuff was clean and without odour. It took three days to drive to Seisia. Putting-up and taking-down camp, and getting on the road by 8.00am, was a push but we retired early after enjoying food and drink prepared by a chief (and frozen – plenty to eat and well-made). We explored the northern tip and visited Roko, Thursday and Horn islands during our four nights in Seisia. Along the way we stopped to examine ancient aboriginal art, visit historic telegraph stations, explore national parks, swim at Fruit Bat Falls and walk to The Tip of the Australian continent. The linchpin that makes such a trip a success is the guide/driver. Terry is so knowledgeable about the geography, wildlife, history, etc. He was very easy going but kept us on task. Terry is not the only guide/driver employed by NW Safaris but I sense that this tour company has a team of dedicated guides that make each trip memorable.
