The 10 Best Sports Complexes in Canterbury Region, South Island

May 14, 2022 Jacquiline Darosa

Christchurch, the Garden City, and the Canterbury region are the perfect destination for daredevils. From northern Kaikoura to Waimate in the south, Canterbury is an adventure sports paradise. Hangliding, helibiking, bungee jumping, snowboarding, jetboating, rafting and skydiving get the adrenaline going. Golfing, flightseeing, swimming with dolphins and soaking in thermal pools are more laid-back temptations. Christchurch, a city of parks and gardens, is the country’s third largest urban area.

My partner and I went to Supa Karts during the week and loved every minute of it. We were very impressed with the quality of the indoor track. The staff were friendly and accommodating, especially Mitch who took some photos/videos of our time there. The owners Nick and his wife were lovely to chat to and made our day extra special. Thanks again!

The pool is a great addition for the local community. The inflatables and the lazy river are always fun. The staff are helpful and the teachers are great.

QEII Recreation and Sport Centre

Four generations of our family enjoyed this venue recently. It had lots of climbing, swinging and sliding things in warm shallow water areas for the little ones. The hydro slide, rapid river and low level warm water pool with large inflated rings and other things for the middle years. Then the cold water lane swimming pool for the more competent and adult swimmers. The tepid water hydro pool was just right for my very pregnant granddaughter to soak in as well as the disabled to enjoy the water. Then the very hot spa pool to relax in and ease away the aches and pains of the elderly. The water jogging lane was in the lane pool. There was also a sauna/steam room. Lots of seating is provided in all areas for those who just wanted to observe family enjoying the facilities. The changing rooms were clean and tidy with the bonus of a swim suit spin dryer to use. I was impressed with the ramps instead of only steps that lead into most of the pools and there were plenty of pool attendants too. The greeter lady was friendly and smiled a lot - very welcoming to our group of four adults and five kids. The pricing was reasonable with discounts for community card holders and superannuates gold card holders. Great for all ages. There was a nice cafe too. I usually wear glasses and my favourite moment was when my great granddaughter asked me to duck my head under the water when she did. When we surfaced she came over and was lovingly smoothing my hair away from my face and said I looked like some other old lady not me. Treasured memories of a wonderful afternoon.
