The smoke jumpers' center was one of the highlights of our time in Missoula. We were right in the center of the action. The tour included the ready room, sewing room, and parachute rigging area. Our guide was well informed and shared a lot of information. The smoke jumpers answered questions, as well. We need to give thanks to these men and women for putting their lives on the line to save our beautiful natural resources.

Largest and most diversified museum in Montana. Kid friendly and interactive displays. The Pioneer Village outside of main building is comprised of 42 original moved in, recreated, and display buildings covering the period of 1890 through the 1960s. Also site of Montana's Outdoor Sculpture Gallery, specializing in whimsical and artistic renderings using mostly discarded and repurposed items.
Almost drove by without stopping. What a mistake that would have been. We only had about an hour but could have stayed much longer. It was a museum unlike we had ever seen because of the variety and uniqueness. The largest collection of “stuff” we have ever seen. From motorcycles to trapper huts to a train! Was lucky enough to meet the owner on our way out to hear about how it was all collected. Fun!

The Museum of the Plains Indian and nearby Blackfeet Heritage Center & Art Gallery provide a great opportunity to learn about the Blackfeet Nation, the tribe's history as well as traditional and contemporary Native American arts and crafts.

The foundations of the Northwest Montana History Museum were first laid in 1894 when the 22,000 square foot Richardsonian Romanesque Central School was completed in the growing city of Kalispell. Since 1999, the Museum has continued the Valley’s commitment to education. Engaging exhibits and one-of-a-kind artifacts tell the story of the region’s history, including the settlement of Flathead Valley, the America Indian tribes of Northwest Montana; the vanished town of Demersville; and pioneer Frank Bird Linderman. Schoolbell Books & Gifts on the Museum’s first floor offers a great selection of Montana history books and Made-In-Montana gifts. Restored classrooms in the old Central School have been converted into elegant rental halls and are available for groups and private gatherings. A variety of year-round educational programs and community events ensure that the Northwest Montana History Museum continues to be a place where the Past is Present.
This museum is done well and worth the visit whether visitors are from Montana or not. Excellent artifacts with narratives from the history of Flathead, the stories of the Native Americans living in the area to the railroad. There is a little bit of everything in this museum.

I was glad to find this open as I have not had much luck with museums lately. While the museum is small, as expected, it is huge on information. Detailed in the museum is the evolution of Cut Bank and Glacier County. On display are artifacts and details from the various aspects of the development. Of the numerous features, those such as Lewis and Clark and the conflicts with the Blackfeet were particularly interesting. Also featured are some of the carvings of John Clark a member of the Blackfeet and a replica of a homestead house. I was fortunate enough to have a one on one tour with Dennis giving me an excellent education on so much history. An hour is a reasonable amount of time. The museum is located on the out skirts of town, if you follow the signs carefully you will find it.

Unmissable on the main road with its Teepee's out front, a great place to stop and see the small museum's Kootenai and Salish (Sqelixw-Aqlsmaknik) treasure. Great reception from Staff and beautiful items for sale if you like the Native American theme. A 30-minute stop-off well worth a visit if you're travelling through western Montana's Flathead Indian Reservation.
