Military History Buffs should make plans to visit this regional recreation center in The Villages, Florida. This facility has what I would call real life history of the military on display on the walls and those items on display were donated by the veteran or the veterans family for display at the facility. There is so much military history to see one would have to spend all day viewing the items if they are serious about military history. Living the Life in The Villages Florida is so much fun and interesting, yall come.

Parker Brothers Concepts

Reviewed By DHinEC

One of our cruise stops was Port Canaveral so I used Trip Advisor to find something new to do there. Parker Brothers Concepts was #1. I was interested in spite of the weak, most recent reviews. When I called, Justine answered and explained why those reviews weren't so good. Remodeling and repairs from a hurricane may have made some experiences not so good. Made sense to me and I booked the guided(VIP) tour for my group. Our ship had a customs procedure that we were not expecting and messed up our schedule. I left a message and hoped that we hadn't missed the tour. We were happy that when we finally arrived, Justine was ready for us. The museum itself wasn't very large with maybe a dozen or so vehicles (we were coming from Smithsonian territory after all) but the variety of vehicles was wonderful--from the Tron motorcycle to the Ghostbusters' Ecto-1! The vehicles change depending on shows and events and the ones we saw were pretty impressive. I can see how just taking the self-guided tour ($10) would not be very interesting. For example, we wouldn't have known that the Parker Bros. made the Mars Rover on display at the nearby Kennedy Visitor Center. Taking the VIP tour led by Justine was so special. Her depth of knowledge, experience (yes, she's driven the vehicles) and background stories brought these vehicles to life. She was friendly and answered any question we asked happily. We left with a deeper appreciation of the creativity and work behind everything we saw. Even if you're not a car person, just the connection with the various movies is interesting. If you are a car person, you'll be happy here.

The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum

The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum is the only museum in the U.S. devoted entirely to shells and mollusks, and one of the best things to do on Sanibel Island. It features more than 30 engaging exhibits of stunning shells, showcasing some of the largest and rarest shell specimens in the world, including the goliath conch, lightning whelk and Atlantic trumpet triton, as well as common Southwest Florida shells, fossil shells and more. New in March 2020, “Beyond Shells: The Mysterious World of Mollusks” adds the live animals that create shells to its must-see experiences. New aquariums include live octopuses, giant clams, nautilus, nudibranchs and gastropods, and two 15-foot-long touch tanks let young visitors get their hands wet. For a perfect Sanibel experience, fun daily beach walks can be reserved, and the nonprofit museum’s scientists also conduct research with local mollusk species.

This has always been an amazing museum, and now it has many aquariums with live mollusks in them, and the live mollusks are fascinating to see! There are mollusks with shells like the Junonia (yes a live Junonia!), and ones without a shell like the octopus, the cuttlefish, and the seahares. If you like shells, you will love this place -- the only national shell museum. Sanibel is all about shells, so even if you are not shell-crazy, you may find this museum of interest because it covers so many shell-related topics. It is a little expensive but it offers so much for the price!

Three generations of family members all found something they absolutely loved about the NASA Kennedy Space Center and you can feel the excitement in the air with the SPACEX launch pad and NASA's upcoming Mission to Mars. Grandma and Grandpa enjoyed coming close to the 50th anniversary of JFK's moonshot being realized, Gen X and Millennial parents and Aunts enjoyed Atlantis and the very wee ones enjoyed all of the interactive exhibits, slides and play park. A great, albeit long day with plenty for everyone. Recommend doing the bus tour first as the line gets very long.

Henry Morrison Flagler Museum

When it was completed in 1902, the New York Herald proclaimed that Whitehall, Henry Flagler's Gilded Age estate in Palm Beach, was "more wonderful than any palace in Europe, grander and more magnificent than any other private dwelling in the world." Today, Whitehall is a National Historic Landmark and is open to the public as the Flagler Museum, featuring changing exhibitions and special programs. The 75-room mansion contains many of the original furnishings as well as an art collection. Adjacent to Whitehall, the Flagler Kenan Pavilion houses Henry Flagler's private Railcar No. 91 as well as a seasonal restaurant, the Cafe des Beaux-Arts, which offers a Gilded Age-themed tea service. The Museum Store offers for sale a wonderful collection of books, gifts and memorabilia with a focus on Florida history. Open Tuesday through Sunday.

Well worth a visit despite the fact that the entrance is currently being renovated. This home reminds me of American royalty, if we had such a thing. Impressive, especially the dishes used, the enormity of the home, and the numerous decorated/named bedrooms.

The Ringling

The Ringling is located in Sarasota, Florida and preserves the legacy of John and Mable Ringling. It is home to the State Art Museum of Florida, the historic Ca' d'Zan Mansion, Bayfront Gardens, the Art Library, two Circus Museums, and the Historic Asolo Theater. The grounds and gardens are free to visit, and the Museum of Art offers free admission on Mondays.

Reviewed By jbwhitehouse - Dallas, United States

The Circus Museum is closed for renovations as are an art gallery. The new Kotter-Koville Glass Museum is at the entrance to Ringling and is free to view. It has beautiful and diverse glass pieces; worth a visit. Admission--free with NARM, MARP, and ROAM memberships--provides admission to the fantastic Tibbals Learning Center, the grounds around Ca'd'Zen, and the truly outstanding and extensive art museum. Additional fees are charged to view Ca'd'Zen for the first floor or other floors. It used to be free to do a self-guiding of first floor and a fairly reasonable charge for two other floors. Now there is a high price, which is understandable when considering the very costly upkeep of the property. Still such high prices exclude this family. Ringling is for all ages and necessitates hours to enjoy.

Over 2,000 pieces of Dali’s work in a 20,000 square foot new museum from 2011, the largest collection of his work outside of his home in Spain. The Morses were collectors that started with Daddy-longlegs, starting a friendship with artist. Connie, our docent whisked a huge group of us through the magnificent museum giving us a lot of background about the founders, artist, building , Art & it’s symbolism. Steve answered all of our architectural questions about this 36 million dollar bunker that can withstand a cat 5 hurricane. The enigma is 1200 different glass plane structures around the concrete. Twelve builders were brought from Mexico with a chef for 22 months to build. Fascinating that the building represents the body of a man and woman on her back. From different perspectives the building looks different. The center spiral staircase represents a DNA spiral. The architecture & garden tours were wonderful too, too much to see! Fabulous app that gave us a self guided tour & lots of info about the art. The gift shop was exceptional, so many beautiful Daliesque jewelry, clothing, books, art ... Cafe was lovely as well, a lot to choose from since we didn’t want to leave. We enjoyed our salad and sandwich outside in the garden.
