This top-notch anthropology museum displays the diversity of Mexican cultures.
If you love museums and ancient Mexican culture, this is a must visit place to you. This is a beautiful place full of hundred of diverse pieces, very well kept and protected. The most famous pieces are the giant heads found in Veracruz state. Museum is very well designed, with good illumination and enough space to walk and enjoy the collection. It is also a very quiet place with very few visitors. Despite of you can download a museum guide app for free for your mobile phone, I strongly suggest you to pay for guide service. Those guys know in deep each piece and connections among them. You can enjoy this service for a very affordable price. My 11 years son enjoyed Nestor explanations and he had the chance to ask him many questions. Guide services are available in Spanish, English and French. If your are carrying your professional camera, you have to pay an admission fee to use it. Thanks Nestor for your marvelous explanations and for allow us traveling in the past with those cultures!

By appointment
The mask curator has been collecting masks for 30 years and has hundreds installed in the museum. He is very knowledgeable about the masks and Mexican history. You must call for an appointment. There is also a nice native art shop included in this beautiful bed-and-breakfast attached to the museum.

The lifelong home of Frida Kahlo is now a museum dedicated to the work of this famous 20th-century artist.
I highly recommend visiting the Frida Kahlo museum, and if you’re English it’s worth paying the extra pesos to have an audio guide. The house is beautiful with so many original artifacts and paintings, and it’s a great way to get a feel for the colourful character that Frida Kahlo was. It’s a very popular attraction so to avoid VERY long queues, it’s best to book ahead.

This museum is dedicated to the story of Don Quixote and displays statues, murals and other depictions of this famous literary figure.
My wife and I loved this museum. Imagine, an entire museum dedicated to the mythical exploits of a fictional character. This might seem absurd, but then you visit the museum and the genius of the place reveals itself. The many galleries contain lovely works of art depicting the improbable events in the lives of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza, and scholarly books about the author, Don Miguel de Cervantes, and his world-famous book. My wife and I loved this place. In fact, we visited twice in our five-day stay.

This museum displays the work of José Guadalupe Posada, a famous local artist.
José Guadalupe Posada is one of the most famous and beloved mexican artist. He was a master of engraving. Although he was not an intelectual figure, his importance in popular culture is undeniable. He was the author of Catrina, the female skeleton that symbolize death and one of mexican most treasured icons. He was born in Aguascalientes, where is sited this museum.

They are not always open so be sure you get a right day and time. It's in the center of city so it's no loss if you have to return or wait. It's a wonderful museum. I love seeing the different masks of Mexico.Staff was friendly and the museum shop was great with many locally made crafts.

Though I had some trouble reading the explanations, which were all in Spanish, there's obviously lots of humor around a subject that we in the U.S. might not dare laugh at.
