Although it's only a 30-minute ferry crossing away from mainland Chile across the Chacao Channel, verdant Isla Chiloe – the largest in the Chiloe archipelago – is another world. Sixteen wooden churches clustered around Castro on the island's east coast have UNESCO World Heritage status, and traditional palafitos (houses on stilts) dot its shores. To the west, Chiloe National Park shelters foxes, sea lions and otters and provides unspoiled terrain for horseback riding, sea kayaking and fishing.

Sean was awesomely the best of the bestest - very highly recommended!!! We toured Valparaiso and Vina del Mar with him, and he dropped us off at Santiago for our cruise embarkation the following day. That was our first trip to South America - our pre-cruise tour, as we cruised Chile, Antarctica, Falkland Islands, Argentina, Uruguay - still so many places to explore in this area. We will definitely come back, and use Sean's company again...

Did this trip in February. To sum it up it consists of 11 hours in a minivan to visit three churches in Chiloe, none of them is interesting unless you are an academic interested in the technical details of wooden church building in the mid 19th century. However good the guides are (and our guide was excellent) this piece of Chile is not worth visiting. The drive to Castro in Chiloe island comprises a 70km motorway run to a ferry and then more than two hours driving along a scruffy, semi industrialised road with no redeeming features to Castro. On arrival the only logical question is "why bother". There are so many beautiful places in Chile I would suggest that people give this excursion a swerve and prevent the total waste of a day of their lives.

Explore Chiloé with a historian who has spent time around the wood-burning stove on long winter nights gathering stories. As you make your way along the coast, you'll hear how fiction is just as believable as fact. As with a beautiful denizen of the sea who blesses fishermen with a catch or a zombie ship out at sea leading people to the golden gates of an eternal city, you'll definitely want to dig deeper into the lore. Once you've downloaded the tour, you can head to the first point of the tour. Don't worry if there is WiFi or not, because the audio tour works regardless with your phone's GPS signal. Just put your phone in your pocket, forget about it, and let the audio guide you. The tour gives you directions and plays at exactly the right time and place. Take a stroll around the main part of town. The walk takes about half an hour, but you can stop at any point along the way. Discover the beautiful San Francisco church and taste local delicacies at the market at the end of the tour.

This tour goes through the natural landscapes that amazed Charles Darwin during his explorations of the Huillinco and Curao Lakes and Pacific Ocean. The excursion starts out with a visit of the city of Chonchi, built on such a steep incline that it’s also known as the Ciudad de los Tres Pisos (three-story city), where some of its best sites are the UNESCO World Heritage Site Church, the Museum of Traditions, the waterfront and crafts market. The route continues to lakeside village Huilliinco, with a quaint cemetery of “little houses” very common to Chiloe. A visit to the Chiloe National Park comes next, where visitors will find the park interpretation center, walk along lovely “Sendero el Tepual” a pathway that winds through Chiloe´s thick and humid forest (comfortable shoes and sunblockers are recommended). The excursion ends at the Pacific Ocean coastline with a walk along the beach. Evening return to Castro

Even Frutillar was in Fase 3, Isabel organized safe tours for my husband and me. The best part of this tour is the trekking to Las Cascadas, I think is amazing; also I loved all the stops in tiny towns around the lake (as Puerto Octay) whose people was so kind and we could buy local products.

GREAT Professionals that understand how to deliver a holiday full of adventure and fun for the entire family. Our family loved this company, their excursions, and especially their guides. We are a family of 4 that was seeking a variety of activities. We let SouthernEx Chile plan propose an agenda and they delivered a family adventure that included; sunset/dinner on Volcan Villarrica with great wine, A visit to a tour/visit to a Mapuche village, Geothermal hotspring baths (we loved this), kayaking on la Poza Lagoon, lunch and tour of Volcano Osomo, full day tour of Desolación trail. SouthernEx Chile also took care of all our accommodations and transfers. The hotels and lodges that they booked were incredible. All were very kid friendly and nearly all had spectacular views. They also prepared/catered a few of the venues and we were never disappointed with the food, or beverages! The planning, venues, activities were fantastic but the the SouhernEx Chile team of guides, drivers, and hosts was what really ensured a wonderful, stress-free, vacation. We never had any communication issues, the drivers were always were on-time, and the knowledge of the guides was very impressive. We have 2 boys (age 4 and 10) and on multiple occasions the SouthernEx Chile team was entertaining our children while me and my wife were relaxing or having a nice glass of wine. One of the things that is important when it comes to having a travel guide partner is “issue resolution”. I don’t like being on vacation and dealing with issues. SouthernEx Chile excelled at this. Our travels in the Chile (Villarrica, Puerto Varas, and Santiago areas) were during the Coronavirus outbreak. There were multiple restrictions that were introduced during our visit and could have had a huge impact on our holiday. SouthernEx proactively dealt with all this by rearranging our agenda (activities, hotels, and a flight). All of these changes executed by SouthernEx with no stress on me or our family. They were great about informing us about these regulation issues, but they always had a proposal that effectively dealt with the issue and keeping our vacation wonderful. I recommend this company to all seeking a wonderful adventure with no planning stress!
