A great blend of regal history and bold modernity, Hyderabad is a delightful place to visit. As the capital of Telangana, it is always thronging with tourists from far off as well as the locals. There are some epic places to visit in Hyderabad, which will satiate your hunger to explore. This reminds us that the city of Nizams is also popular for its Hyderabadi Biryani which is something not to be missed here. The new, cosmopolitan area of the city is also filled with a plethora of places like the Golkonda Fort and Salar Jung Museum for the history buffs, Ramoji Film city for the movie buffs, and the glittery malls & clubs dotted all over for the people to have a good time.

I went on two trips with my family with India TajMahal Tour operators. First trip was Delhi-Agra-Jaipur-Delhi. The trip was wonderful and I went with my kids and brother for this trip. It was arranged very well. Kids loved the hotels - especially the garland and thilak part ???? Driver was very good and prompt in picking up and dropping us off. He was very patient though I don't think he knew any English...I was glad that my brother came with me to handle the Hindi part. The guide in Taj was particularly very good. Others were just ok. Second trip, I went on the upper triangle tour Delhi-Kurukshetra-Amritsar-Haridwar-Rishikesh-Delhi. I went with my parents, mother-in-law, kids and my brother for this trip. The arrangements were outstanding. We had a big van with lot of leg room so the long travel was easy on elders' knees. Driver was with us all the time. The hotels in every single place were outstanding. I loved the hotel near Ganges - I would go there anytime! It had a private bathing ghat. My brother and I took a walk in the busy streets and enjoyed street food which were so good. My dad wanted to take a bath in Ganges and he did it on both days while we stayed at the hotel. Since the hotel had a private ghat, the kids, mom and mom-in-law all took a bath happily in the river. In big cities, Sheena reserved Radisson Blu and Leela Palace, an outstanding experience. Sadly, my dad died in 9 months after this trip. I am grateful to TajMahal tour operators for making this the most memorable trip for all of us. Sheena knows how to organize things based on the age group of the passengers! She is wonderful to work with. We have become FB friends as well :-) I strongly recommend this crew!

The Golconda fort has a chequered history from the 12th century to the 19th century. The history is rich with intricate power struggles interspersed with architectural commissions of the Kakatiya [Hindu] Bahmani, Qutub shahi and later the Nizams. It was fascinating to note architectural similarities with modern day Iran’s architecture with the stunning view from the top of the fort reminding me of the ancient ruins of Rome! The tombs of the Qutub shahi kings are worth a visit as the architecture is grand and is a mix of Persian and local influences.I was pleasantly surprised to find two tombs of the physicians of the time [Geelani] and a couple of tombs of the dancing girls of the time amongst the tombs of kings and queens! I skipped the palaces and rushed through the Salar Jung museum as I was short on time. John [the guide] was excellent .His knowledge of the complex history of the region and his ability to relate it to the monuments was par excellence. Despite 27 years as a guide, he still remains passionate in his job. He was punctual, respectful and mindful of the fact that I would need frequent water breaks in the 40degree C heat . For a day, John transported me back in time to marvel at the spirit and endeavours of eight centuries of rulers in the Deccan [anglicised name for Dakshin-south]. Please carry your water as there are no water arrangements at the top of the fort. The fort is being repaired in sections and could do with more signages and tourist information plates.
