The Singapore cityscape looks like it was ripped from the pages of a science fiction comic book. If you’re hungry for a true Singapore experience, sample the myriad street foods or take a cultural cooking class. The Botanic Gardens and the Gardens By the Bay offer a slice of horticultural heaven, and the observation deck of the Sands SkyPark makes you feel like you’re high above the clouds. The banks and walkways along the Singapore River bustle with local activity.

Not too long back in Singapore’s dramatic young history (70s) as an independent city-state, Boat Quay was the epicentre of the aquatic trade of Singapore’s economy. What is now rows of F&Bs were godowns (warehouses) and shop-houses. This river mouth was crowded with bum oats and river-taxis, half-naked baled-bodied men transferring cargos between boats and warehouses. Hence, my special love of this place as a local born of how fortunate I am to witness the unbelievable rapid transformation of Singapore.

UOB is committed to building lasting relationships with our customers, through product and market expertise, and our promise to always do what is right. With a well-established global presence today and particularly in Asia, UOB has understanding of Asian markets, corporate culture and business mindsets, which is matched by few. Our strong foothold in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and China is well-placed to create greater access and growth in this region, for our customers.
Not a customer of UOB but dropped by the visit the UOB Painting of the Year Exhibition. Stunning works on display of various mediums - including leather - stunning work of faces by Somchai Sidamon. Another entitled wastescape depicts space waste - intriguing and masterfully created by Chaichana Luetralun. Plenty of other art works that are equally attractive. Clearly a lot of talent on display. Opposite on the ground floor is Paris Baguette - I had a nice lunch there. As you exit the building onto UOB Square you will see a massive sculpture by Salvador Dali - an artists delight. Great visit.

Firstly, the location is really great to be next to the Riverside and it's not too crowded. A good place to get a leisurely stroll before and after. There's lots of different high end cuisines here - Italian, Japanese, Persian even. Good place to have a comfortable night out with good food. Also can go from restaurant to nearby bars. I like shabestan and wine connection.

I sought out this bird sculpture because I absolutely love Fernando Botero's work, the sculptor of this impressive piece of art. I love how he makes everything fat! It was a bit of a challenge to get to and it didn't help that it was at night. It can seem unimpressive if just walking by. Perhaps it could have been better presented or situated, but nonetheless I enjoyed and appreciated it. The good news is if you're a Botero fan, there's another more grander set of sculptures you can see on Sentosa Island which I highly recommend! And these ones I accidentally ran into.

This sculpture is one of many along the promenade of Boat Quay, except this is less serious than the others. The sculpture depicts a scene where 5 boys are jumping into the Singapore River. Two of the boys are depicted mid flight and just adds to the sense of joyful memories. One of the boys is depicted getting into his birthday suit which just reminds me of the halcyon days of youth. Wonderful childhood memories.

The Singapore Parliament is just that- the legislative institution for Singapore. It is in a great location (of course) in a slightly unassuming building. It is directly opposite the other branch of government, the judiciary [the quirky Supreme Court]. The SG Parliament is good for photos and makes a nice backdrop. Also, you can enter the Parliament via a side entrance [on the Supreme Court side] and has a gift shop, some historical artefacts and you can view proceedings should they be happening at the time of your visit.

It is believed that the design was modelled after “Cleopatra’s Needle” on the Thames Embankment in London, which might explain the British influences in its tall, needle-like architectural structure.
